Homemade Granola w/Instant Oats?

I've been looking for a recipe for homemade granola, but all I can find are those with old fashioned oats as opposed to the instant/quick-cooking oats. Is there a reason I should not use the instant oats? How will the granola turn out if I do use the instant oats, because that's all I have and I want to use it up? Thanks for any information and suggestions!

Instant oats are not uses because they are to fine and soft and because hey have added ingredients like gaur gum and oat flour for quick thickening. These traits would lead to granola with a less than pleasing texture. I would mix some old fashoined oats with it before I use them.

Thanks, that's a good suggestion. Maybe I will do a mixture. I will make a small batch to experiment.

It could be more of a texture thing, because of the way that the instant oats are processed. When they are mixed with liquid they will become sticky as opposed to teh old fashioned oats. However, I have used either in some recipes with no problems, just texture issues. Not sure the instant would work for granola though.

It should work, although it may not hold up well because it's softer than old fashioned oats. I can't see that it would taste any different, though. I use quick cooking oats with no problem, but have never tried instant.
