Do you think men are instinctively polygamous ?

With due respect to men folk I would like to hear from my fellow mylotters whether men are born with the instinct of being polygamous . I know all there are exceptions and many would not agree with this view . I have no grudges against the community of men but would like all men and women participate in the discussion and tell what they think . Promiscuity is different from polygamy and I don't intend to mean that . What I mean to say that men are born with this nature and that forces them to act accordingly . If it is not nature but situation then we need to also consider what is the reason behind this hunt as found in men ? Is it the dirth of some gratification in life which prompts them to do so or something else ? With no intention of ill will or malice let us all participate and discuss .

My ex cheated on me so it's not just men who are polygamous. She did it without having any reason but lust, in my opinion. I have never cheated on her (well, I did but that's after I found out about it), never did anything wrong to her, nothing. We were okay when I found out that she was already cheating on me.

I know frontvisions101 that no premise can be generalised as we can find the qualities inherent in both the gender . The number of instances may be more in the case of men but women can not be given a clean chit either . Thanks for your response . Have a nice day !

Yep, both genders cheat so you can't really say which is the better one regarding this.

I have no reason to disagree with you but as per psychological inference men are said to have a nature of being polygamous and I just wanted to hear what the others say . You will also agree the percentage in case of women is lower than men .

From a purely biological viewpoint, it's advantageous for a man OR a woman to have children by several different partners because that will maximise the genetic mixing. So the basic biological drive of BOTH men and women is towards multiple partners. Of course, on top of that are various cultural and religous factors that modify the basic biological drive in different ways...

Thanks for your feedback jwfarrimond . I can understand what you mean to say and uphold . What may be biologically correct may not be socially acceptable . Anyways the discussion is meant to find out the plygamous nature of men and its corroboration as per psychology .

Thanks for sharing your thoughts chiyosan . Such experiences in our lives or our close ones compel us to rethink on this . Exception are there but we may have failed to meet them . YOu are right it is sad but eventually it becomes the truth .
