I am very disappoint to find that if I want to buy a house by myself, I have to work more than 30 years while can not waste even a little money. House is very important here, without a house you can not have a marriage, and your children may lose their right to have health care and education. So I must buy a house, but thinking about how life will do on after I buy the house, I think I lost most of happiness in my life. House price is unbelievable here, poor people suffer it. But house is essential for a live, we can not live without it.

Personally, Im expecting to be filthy rich by the time it comes to getting my own hosue so I dont think it will be a problem lol However, if it doesnt happen I plan on flipping houses. New homeowners get money towards a new house like 5000 dollars or something here when they first get a mortgage. So being that my boyfriend is in construction and builds and finishes houses, we would prob first own quite the fixer upper. We would put some work into it and fix it up, sell it for more then we paid, get another house a tad bigger, do the same thing, till eventually we would have a really nice house that we loved, may take a few years to get the really nice one but it will happen.

Here we have to pay 50% of the hose price the down payment, then get a mortgage to pay the left 50%. As a house will cost 20 years' income. I think to many young people, they can not afford it. Even with their parents' help, some of them still can not make it. I hope I can win the lottery, so all the problems will not be problems any more.

Economically speaking, renting a house is a better choice than buying a house at present. If you rent a house in the downtown of Shanghai, you only need to pay three to four thousand RMB per month. Then you could spend your money in doing something more meaningful and interesting. If you buy a house in the downtown of Shanghai, you need to pay hundreds of thousands of RMB down payment and thousands of RMB per month, which is a huge pressure. But you know few families could accept their children get married in a rented house, especially the families of bride.

If just for me to live, I will choose rent than buy. In Shanghai, the interest of the money for a house can make you live in a comfortable place. But if taking children's education problem into consider, buying a house is a better choice. And I do not think the house price in China is normal. It will go down in the future. But when will that happen is a big problem. I hope that could happen before I start my family.

When I read your discussion, I can already realize that you come from China. I think perhaps only the people in China can feel this pressure very well. You are right, the house is important here as we have to settle down. Having a house means that finally you have a completed home. And the worst thing is even if you have spent your whole life's savings to buy a house, you can only own it for 70 years. WTF! I love China

Yes, the pressure is great for people here in China. Without a house here means you have no place to settle down. And People should think about it before marriage, for house will be a big problem after you get marriage. Child's residence registration should be taken into consider. Now people think more about children's education, and some house in the school district become quite expensive. And 70 years ownership may be another big problem for us to think about.

Oh dear, my friend who works as a programmer earns high and bought a house in just 7 years. I am so jealous of her because she is not good with me. I thought if I were you, will I just buy a smaller house or maybe stay with parents?

Buying a small house is really a good idea. After having the house, then consider how to get a big one.I hope there will be a house about 15~20 m^2. So that I can buy one after 3`5 years work. I think that big is enough for a single person, and a couple without kids can make a life in there. But I can not find such house now.

For me not because all good investment is the house if you have not house then you are not good in your income because you can't save more your money you always rent until you find no money at all.

If the monthly installment of house loan is a little higher than the rent, I think most people will buy a house instead of a rent. But here monthly installment is more than three time of the rent. It is not a good investment to save money in that way. But as a house is a fortune, it is much better than cash to keep value.

Yes, I think so because it is everybody's dream to have his/her own house.Money can be earned so even if I used all my savings to have a house I guess there will be no problem. It's also an investment just in case.

The house may be the best investment now in China, but I can not sure it will still be best in the next 30 years. As the house will cost you 20 years' income. It is too high to buy it. I think the suitable price for a house is about 5~7 years' income. So that you can keep a good life standard while try to save for the house, and before you retire you can have your own house. And you can take it into consider as one part of your retire plan. But as people can usually work 30 years in a whole life, and the house costs more than half of it, and the interest of the house loan will take more than that. I do not think a person can live without eating and dressing for 30 years.

Oh I didn't know that the houses in China are so expensive. Why is that so? I am puzzled because China is so big. Countries like Singapore will tend to have more costly houses because of the lack of land. Singaporeans also face the same problem here. We could be paying for our apartments (public flats)throughout our working lives. I think the problem here is due to the high number of permanent residents, who are cash-rich and so could afford to pay more. That drives up the property prices here. I agree with you that having a roof over our heads is essential. But I don't understand why a person's children may lose their rights to healthcare and education just because of housing issue. Care to enlighten me? Thanks.
