Would you prefer a Priest to part of Space Exploration?

Hello Lotters, Well, Not exactly Priest but probably any kind of pastor or religious person who likes to pray a lot and have this conservative belief still, and he will be part of a comprehensive space exploration and might see things contrary to his belief. I remember one part of the story from the movie sunshine when the first Ship was compromised and sabotage by their Captain who happens to a religious person. almost compromise the second ship which became successful in the end. not a ref link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_%282007_film%29#Plot Unfortunately, If I was a Chief Officer at NASA or any Space Agency i wouldn't hire a religious person no matter how smart or good he or she is. no offense intended but we need open minders when ever we explore space, a little prayer isn't too bad though. What are you're views?

A few astronauts have been religious, I shook hands with Buzz Aldrin when he did the prayer opening of the Texas Legislature in late 1984 http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/communion.html

Hello Elic, I guess there's nothing wrong with being religious as long as they don't snapped or gone crazy when mission goes wrong. ever asked him if there aliens on moon or not?. well, that was way back home, how about on a mission? well, am sure he did his job well in Apollo 11

I think that anyone who would "snap" would be caught in psy tests before they ever got off the ground

I'm not that religious but I believe in Christianity and God as a creator of this universe. For this reason, in any activity that may seem dangerous or somehow hard to see the outcome. I would prefer someone to offer a short prayer. As you said a religious person should be part of the team or just for that moment when to bless the occasion. A call for God's intervention is highly respected and believed to be the appropriate way to start an adventurous journey. I think space exploration too fall under this. So bad that most religious groups do not like to get involved in scientific studies.

Hello waflay, I believe they will be more liability than being too useful. I don't agree that Human distraction because they believe it's GOD intervention just llike that man from the movie that he believed it was the end of man where man eventually found a way to keep the sun from dying.

Really? I don't understand how they can be a liability because what they are needed for is only to bless the journey ahead. I hope you are not referring to those religious personnel who offer a long prayer and waste time... as we all know science and time walk together.

Hi Letran Knight: I think it really depends on the needs of the group. If they are some persons in the space exploration that are religious, to have the company of a religious leader could be very inspirational and I disagree when you say that you won't consider a religious leader no matter if he/she is smart, because he can also be a good professional that could be a good member of the crew regardless his own beliefs. Hello Starsailover, That's my choice my friend. I can request for a priest to pray for them before the launch or the journey but i can't consider them for the entire journey. though if you're in the position i guess you can consider them to be part of the crew. Have a nice day

They brought friars along when they were rediscovering the the Philippines didn't they? We all know what happened, I have nothing against the Catholic church or any other religion for that matter so long as they concern themselves purely to spirituality, now any religion that has an agenda besides what they have been tasked to do is a different thing, and that goes for everyone who pretends to be holy but have hidden self serving agendas

Hello Louievill, Yeah they brought priest with them. there is something different since despite of their training in space they would simply snap. I wonder what if they met a shaft shifting mind reading aliens who can pretend as god? that's going to be trouble to the astronauts. Have a nice day.

part of space exploration? then the priest or pastor will later realize that BIBLE is not the only word of God but SCIENCE as well... BIBLE and SCIENCE, they are all both words of God.... because everything that exist in the universe, all, no exceptions, are all made by God....

Hello mantis, Unfortunately for a person too religious i think it will be deep for them to understand the mysteries of the universe, more alone the galaxy. for the religious ones, Bible and Science are a complete different view, something they wont consider.Have a Nice day.
