So yesterday was hurricane Irene and I live in VA, so this morning when I woke up 2 trees in our backyard uprooted and broke our fence, not a big deal, And these trees were HUGE also, they were really thick and tall, so I went to the front of the house and we have this tree that's only like 5 feet and it's really skinny, and I thought it would've fell down but it stayed up, This is like a miracle to me, I just can't believe that this scrawny tree stayed up. And like 2 massive trees fell down in my backyard, And I'm currently pregnant too So now I'm thinking of naming my baby irene if it's a girl.

So glad you are okay though. What a mess for you to clean up....but at least you are safe! There will probably be a few Irene's after this!

hi bluegemini its the slim young ones that will bend with the wind while heavy huge trees are more top heavy and can be uprooted the'the winds so much easier. The slim skinny tree is flexible while the huge massive trees are not so the small skinny trees are more apt to make it.Irene is alwys a great name for a girl. lol lol,,,,, c

I agree slim bendable trees stand up to the stress of the wind much better than older ridged trees. LOL I always think how similar to life that is..if we bend/give/compromise during stress instead of staying ridged we will not break.

Well I didn't see any bending, I hope It stays up.

The two trees that fell were probably old and were bound to fall anyway and the one that stayed must be young and supple. Well, it is a good thing that Hurricane Irene wasn't really that furious. It damaged some properties but I think people have a lot to be thankful for because it wasn't the monster that everybody was preparing for.

I am so glad to hear that you all were okay. I was watching the weather reporting's last night and wondered about you and so many others here. My that is like a miracle indeed, so the little tree has more strength then one thought it to be possible, I suppose. I am so glad no harm came to you and or family. I think "Irene" for you baby is lovely and wishing her to be a baby miracle as well.

Thinking of it as not a big deal seeing 2 tress in your back yard fall, you're definitely so strong. I admire you pregnant women. And yes, the tree in yuor house is strong just like you.

there is a chinese saying'great trees catch much wind',which means the huge tree will resist much wind receive much more challenge from the wind. it is ok,you are safe. and it is calm now? American always encounter several hurricanes in one year. God bless american. Irene is a beautiful name. I like it.
