how to play or watch live tv channel's on the internet?

hello friends, i am a new user of internet. i did not know that how and where i watch the live tv channel's on my pc.some of my friends advice me to purchase a tv tuner card.i haired that some websites or media player can play tv channel's live on our pc.can anyone tell me about it? thanks.

Do a search for "streaming live TV". There are many TV stations that broadcast themselves online. Even more sites relay these feeds.
There are basically two types of online TV. Most common are the Flash player types. Flash is very slow, so the TV program could jump a lot and not keep up with the download speed. It gets very annoying to watch.
Second type is the true streaming protocols (such as mms://)
These can be played direct in VLC or Mplayer - you don't need the browser. Generally much faster and can be played full screen.
