Have you ever had the movie theater to yourself?

Tonight I went to the movies with my boyfriend to see Fright Night. We got in just as the movie started and when we looked around the theater, no one was there! It's never happened to either of us before. I've been to the movies and only had a few others in the room with me, but never completely empty. It was really nice and my boyfriend and I felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We were able to talk regularly about the movie instead of whispering. Whenever we go to the movies together we always talk a little but we always have to whisper. This time, we were able to talk as we pleased and just relax and we had a great time. Have any of you ever had the entire theater to yourselves?

It's happened to me a few times, but the last time that I can recall was when my sister and I went to see "Princess and the Frog". I'm a bit of a movie-talker, I attempt to stifle it when we're in theaters, but when I'm watching a movie at home, I will talk almost all the way through the movie. Movies I love, and movies I hate! It's just how I enjoy a movie, I gotta make comments on everything, guesses as to where it's going, or laugh at how bad something is. So in that empty theater, I talked as loud as I wanted to and it was awesome! I really enjoyed Princess and the Frog by the way.

I find I'm more likely to have a theater to myself during weekday matinee showings... and I often go to those cause weekends are usually out for me these days, and it is cheaper. Either that or a movie not many people are interested in.

Yeah, on weekdays the theater is a lot less crowded and that's usually the best time to go. Also, if you see a movie that's been out for weeks you're more likely to be in the theater by yourself

My boyfriend and I are like that when we watch movies. So tonight it was nice to not have to whisper and we were able to talk freely about the movie. We didn't have to hide our laughs or anything. I had a really good time and I'm hoping it happens again because I really liked it lol

Wow. I do hope it will also happened to me. It is such a nice thing to say that as if you have rented the place all by yourself! Nice experience...

It definitely felt like the place was rented out just for us. I had such a good time because it was like watching a movie at home where you can talk and stuff. If you go to the movies around dinner time during the week it may happen. We saw a movie at 6:10 and nobody was in it. I'm really hoping it can happen again because I loved it

You lucky things, the closest I have got was when I went to a daytime viewing of some movie and I was one of just 3 people in there. It certainly makes for a nice experience when the auditorium is almost empty and there are so few distractions from those around you.

It was really nice. I hope you can experience it someday! The movie felt like a private showing just for the two of us. We were able to talk as much as we wanted and didn't have to worry about bothering other people or have other people bother us.

No this has never happened with me although I would be delighted if I got such an opportunity. Was it a horror movie?I would have probably clung to my partner if it was a horror flick since I am really scared by these kind of films.Anyway I am thrilled to hear that you have had such an experience. But I wonder why no one else came to watch the movie.Did you watch it several weeks after its release? Then may be there is a possibility that many people had watched the movie already. But very nice to hear that you could talk freely and relax. It makes the movie experience enriching.I too like to talk or ask certain things in the theater but have to keep the questions stored to ask after the movie gets over so that people do not object to us talking. So if I ever got such an opportunity to have the entire theater to myself,I would be delighted!

Okay I understand.I am so petrified of scary movies you know and yet I cannot avoid the temptation to watch them!

It wasn't really a scary movie...it would've been really creepy to be alone in the theater if it was! The movie had been out for about 2 weeks I think and we went on a weekday around dinnertime. So that's probably why it was so empty at the theater.

It has happened to me and the kids a few times now. . .I guess because we go to earlier or weekday movies. Actually, movies are so uncrowded now that I am surprised when we have a crowded movie theater! It just doesn't seem like many people go to the movies any more, with the exception of big summer draws like Harry Potter.

I think the movies are more crowded on a weekend. I've gone on the weekends both at night and during the day and I was pretty surprised at how many people there were. But when I go during the week, it's so much better because hardly anyone is there. And I guess now that school has started again the movie theaters are even less crowded during the day which is great for me since all my classes are online and I hardly have to go to school.

I never saw the original but I really liked the remake. It had funny parts and then the creepy parts. Overall I thought it was pretty good. I just thought it was weird that Colin Ferrell played in a horror movie when he's usually in action or serious roles.

There have been times when my boyfriend and I had the movie theater to ourselves. It was nice not having anyone interrupt our movie, but somewhat weird that no one else was in the movie theater.

Yeah, it did feel a bit weird to be the only ones there. If we were seeing an actual scary movie I don't think I would've liked it as much lol

No, I've never had the movie theater all to myself. Like you, I've been in the theater where there were only a few people, but I've never had it to where it was completely empty. I'm pretty sure my husband has though. But then again he goes a lot more often than I do, so I guess it was bound to happen to him sooner or later! LOL Happy mylotting!

Haha! And aside from talking, what else? I think I've never been in a theater all by myself. The closest I've been was some sort of animated movie which was 3 or 4 weeks old, and aside from me and my kids, was another family across another side of the theater.

No I never experienced that. I just experience watching a movie with my boyfriend about 4 years and there are only two people there aside from us. It is quite scary probably because we are not used watching movie with too few viewers.

Yes actually quite a few times. I think people don't go to the movies that much these days. I don't go to the movies very often too so yeah maybe that is the case. Anyway the last time I went to the movies was to watch this new movie but then there were so less people. About 9-10 of us in total I guess. But yeah I like it that way too, it's better than a packed one. We eat whatever we like and talk haha that is fun!!

I think you're right. The movies are expensive and a lot of times there are places to watch the movies online. I only go when there's a scary movie or an action movie that I want to see. Other than that I just watch it online or wait until it comes out on dvd. It was nice not having a full theater. Other people sometimes are obnoxious or scream through the movie.

yes it happened to me once back in college. I used to roam around or watch movies alone before whenever i get bored. So one time i went to a movie house, picked a horror movie.. Never heard of it actually so i paid and went in. The thing was, it was not english and on subs. Hehehehe.. I didnt read the post if there was some sort of indication and the characters were played by hollywood celebrities. Anyway, it was explanatory by actions and it was about premonition and stuff. Yes, i sat there alone until the end.

I think we experienced that once too- my family and I went to the movies, i think it was the 3rd or 4th week of it now, which was why there were no one else but us.. It was a nice feeling but a bit scary sometimes.. good thing the people came like 30 minutes later.

Wow that must have been great. You two enjoyed the movie, got to talk on normal tone and nobody was there to walk in front of you, or nobody was laughing out loud and nobody's phone rang... I never had that experience yet, but I do have an experience of telling someone to talk softly and stop putting his feet on the sit beside me.

I don't think I can finish a movie knowing that the theater is empty. I would rather leave and will not mind how much did I spend. That is so scary. The theater is so dark with no one around. So creepy. I've never experienced that. I have experienced few people in the theater. Me and my sister decided to watch the last full show. 2 students, one lady and me and my sister were only the people inside the theater. It was drama movie so nothing is really scary though.
