I read The Time Traveler's Wife before watching the movie too, and I do agree that the film did no justice to it. The story just seemed weird and completely lacking, and I think that makes it harder for people to understand and appreciate it. I love Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana too, but yeah. I agree with you.

I loved the book, "The Firm" by John Grisham more than the movie. The movie cut out the entire middle section of the book, which made the movie hard to follow around the time Tom Cruise went into the hidden/locked room in the condo in the Cayman Islands. You wonder, "HUH? How did he know to go there? What happened?" The book leads you up to the point, where the movie fast forwarded you to that point. The only 3 movies, I have seen where I love the books and films equally have been "The Horse Whisperer," "The Thorn Birds," and "Bridges of Madison County." Each of them follow the book almost to the letter. With a slight exclusion tothat statement, "Horse Whisperer" follows the book to the letter, but moves a few things around. A few things happen earlier in the movie, later in the book, but they happen and both versions are easily understood, unlike "The Firm."

i havn't read any of those but here is my opinion. They turn the movie into a book because people love the books .....well if people love the books why change anything.
