Facing your fear

I joined this voice lesson for the first time. And it was actually a big step for me. You see ever since I was in high school I never sang even in videokes and I don't even watch musicals. So when my friends learned that I would be performing live, they are so shocked. Actually, it was really shocking. When I looked back to the past me, I would never ever do it. Besides singing is my waterloo and I was really scared when I think about singing on stage. But when you have something to push you to do something you're scared the most, you just do it no matter what the consequences. How about you? Is there something you fear of doing so much and later motivated to do it?

Hi glaiz! Wow, a stage performance! Good luck with that! May I ask what motivated you to finally sing and in a stage for that matter! Recently I've just realized that my biggest fear is to lose my job, to not be able to find a new job and to feel useless. Honestly, I don't know how will I able to face that fear. I have felt the urge to resign from my current work and find a different job, or the same job but different company, but I just can't face that fear. There's this feeling that if I resign and I won't be able to find a new, good job, people will look down on me and I don't want that. Somehow there's the pressure from their expectations because I have achieved a lot back in school and after school. People might see me as smart but actually, inside I'm just insecure and I actually have inferiority complex. Anyway, I don't know what kind of thing will motivate me to face my fear. But I do long for that moment when I will have no worries and just live my life that I want it to be, free from other people's expectations.

Wow. Your family excels in academics? Now I'm wondering what your jobs are. And salaries! Just kidding.^^ So your sister wasn't able to pursue that dream? That's just really sad. Aren't you scared that once you get on the stage your sister will show herself to you? I haven't heard about that saying! And frankly, I think that's a really sad saying. A sad reality about life. You're not being naive, you're being dependent! lol

I guess you can guess from my post. People who has the same field as me has almost the same interest. Yeah, she didn't get to pursue that dream. Though she was really passionate about it until she was taken from us when she's in highschool.

Hi galiz, I remember, when I was in primary school I was afraid of being asked to answer the question in class. My face would turn red, and voice became shivering, I could realize everybody was laughing at me, how shameful. My teacher awared of it and had a long conversation with me. After that I reallize why I have to pay so much attention to care other peopel's thought, I can't control them at all, why not just do what I have to do and what I want to do even though it could be silly to someone. In a word, just be confident anytime.

There are times in life that we need to face our fears or let it haunt us for the rest of our lives. By conquering my fears I realize how strong I am as a person. It allowed me to grow as a person and help others conquer their own fears too. I use to be afraid of swimming because of an accident I had when I was young and while still learning to swim but there come a point in my life that I have to learn to swim or fail my course. I decide to take on the challenge and I was able to get very good grades. Upon learning that I can conquer my fear If I decide to do it I then applied this same principle to all of the things that I fear.

That's great especially if you acquired a fear because of a traumatic event. I applaud you for that. It really makes us strong when we faced our fears and later realized that why did you have that kind of fear in the first place? It would seem silly for most of people after conquering it.

hi:) I always had a fear of heights, since I was a child, that's why when my friends are playing on the tree house on our school, I don't join them, and sometimes I felt left behind. but just last year my family had a vacation to Quezon province here in Philippines, we go hiking and there was a cliff and the only way is to cross using that small bridge,I need to conquer my fear that time because there's no other way and I also don't like to cause trouble for my family and ask them to go back instead. so since then I conquered my fear. goodluck with your singing!

Thanks! I have a cousin too that's really afraid of heights. She would just sit in the corner and shake because of fear. There even came a time when she have to crawl a bridge in our province just to cross a river. :D

I can relate to you. I was a music student back in my college years. It was fearful really especially when recital performance is coming near. I had to practice a lot of songs and play piano pieces. The fact is, I was forced to enroll music as a course but it's my passion yet I have this severe shyness of performing in front of many people. Then graduation recital came and I had to memorize 16 songs of different era and language not to mention several piano pieces! Oh, I wished that it would end so soon. But you know, it was great that I performed well and even enjoyed it. Though of course, expect that the introduction is the worst. Hehe! All I'm saying is, You can do it too!

Thanks for the encouragement! :D I was planning on continuing it too but only for the sake of gaining confidence when it comes to singing. Besides I'm not planning on becoming a professional singer though my friend is really passionate about it. :D

when i was in high school, my greatest fear was to see face-to-face my biggest crush. i had no strength or whatsoever to muster to face her. and then, my friends set me up. i was about to go to a meeting, and when i entered the room, there was my crush, i immediately ran away. of course, i was so ashamed of what i did. i wrote a letter to her saying apologies. i never tried to face that fear- fear of appearing, acting, and saying stupid things infront of her.

Actually, everybody always has something they fear. However, the moment finally come when we have to face it. At that time, the only thing we should do is to do what we can and forget the fear. For example, I used to fear to speak in front of lots of people. They are waiting for you to say something. So just kick the fear out of my mind to introduce myself as beginning. And I performance well all the same with others.

I agree that everyone has something to fear. I guess it only varies on the number of your fear. :D I'm glad you're able to conquer it.
