Hey, MyLot! Do you think that the best things in life are free? It certainly cheers me up when I think that they are, but on the other hand you have "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch". What do you think? Can you name a few good things that are free?

I love swimming at a tropical beach. In such a location I have my own snorkeling mask and beach shoes. I enjoy walks along a coastal track and in the countryside. I own lots of books and visit my local library to borrow books. I really enjoy reading books. Seeing a sunset is free and memorable. When I see a rainbow I think wow. I like to see wildlife and today I saw a gray heron by the riverside.

Now that's a really awesome positive outlook on life you've got there. Your post made me think that I have very few hobbies and that there is so much out there just waiting for me to explore it. :) Thanks.

For me, the very best things in life cannot be bought by money. They are not materials - genuine love, true friendship, inner joy and peace. I think a poor man striving so hard for one meal is more fulfilled than a very rich man who has to buy friends and most of the time they are not even true fiends. :))

For me those are the best things in life. Yes, we cannot live on friendship alone but we also couldn't live on white bread alone. There are many things that make up our lives. People have different views and values and each one looks at things in different ways. Some count their blessings while some dwell on what they don't have. I saw a feature of a family who would share one bowl of food for all five of them and yet they are happy and full of hope and the hope that they have despite their circumstances is I think one of the best things to have. :))

I don't think friendship and love is free though. Women are the most expensive things on the planet.

andy77e, LOL, maybe they are. Though should you really care for a woman who's only after your wealth? I personally think not.

I believe there's no free lunch. Money is not the only scale to measure the price we pay. The payment can be our efforts, pain, tolerance or anything. Even for free things, we have to take some pain to retain it or to know it's real value.

Yet we need some kind of tolerance to retain it. I've read here in someone's profile that "everyone in this world is going to make you suffer, but some people are worth suffering for". It's true to some extent.

Friendship should be an exception to this. You shouldn't suffer to discover its value.

I also think that the best things in life are free. Family, friends, relatives, they're all priceless. Hanging out peacefully in your apartment without any disturbance is also priceless. There are a lot of other stuff that are priceless these days and most of them can't be bought by money.

I guess it's really the little things in life that bring us the most joy. :)

There really are few things I enjoy that are completely free, but there are many that money can't buy that life would be sad without. Friendship and love require a large emotional investment and you may get hurt as well as happy. A job you enjoy may have cost a lot in terms of giving time and money for training. The sunset and the trees and flowers we enjoy the beauty of cost the time we take to enjoy them. The walks I like to take also cost me time away from other projects. I think we have to consider time and effort, not just money when we say something is free. However, it is these non-material things -- enjoying nature, seeing beauty, listening to music (not always free), and talking with family and friends that make life worth living. Without these things, I would be merely existing.

That's a nice way to put it.

Some few good things I definitely savor as they are free are Smiles, Hugs and Laughter. They help bring out the best in everyone. It enhances our optimistic outlook. Much more, it is more rewarding when shared. Here's one for you :)

Ha ha, thanks! Laughter! Hugs! I completely forgot about those. I love laughing and as for hugs... they'd be greater if I had a special somebody next to me. But ah well. Oh yeah, almost forgot. :) Here's one for you, as well.

Yes, the best things in LIFE are indeed FREE and many of us don't realize it. The reason why we don't pay attention is because we take credit for having paid for other things that are expensive.Examples of things that are best and free are Environmental Beauty and Time. You don't have to pay for any of these and they are the best things you can get.The best things in life are what you give away without expectation of return.
