A debate about Christianity.

I like to search videos in the youtube. Recently I just love to search videos regarding my faith. I am a Roman Catholic. I can see that there are so many videos attacking Christianity. Yes it is true that there are also videos attacking other religions but I don't really search for that. When I watch the videos, I just feel that they just want to know Christianity in order to attack Christians. Most of them memorize the verses in the Bible just at their finger tips. Even some ex-Christians give their testimonial about how bad Christianity is. Personally, I don't agree with debate between religions. Debate for me is just a platform for the debaters to rebut each other. We don't really see the good of others. We are trying to make the others look bad in a debate. What is your opinion about this?

Actually, we are told in the New Testament not to engage in such debates (1 Timothy 6:20, 2 Timothy 2:14, 2 Timothy 2:16, 2 Timothy 2:23) for those who are involved in it gains nothing. I suggest that you read upon the two books of Timothy, they contain instructions on how a Christian should live their lives. God bless.

Tonio, Each of those verses isn't referring to the engagement of such debates. Rather, each one has a specific meaning to not get involved in petty arguments that could lead to full blown out fights. Like issues over owing a small amount of money. Or giving someone the wrong look could generate a snap of words, then suddenly a full blown heated argument. Also note that Timothy was the one who being addressed in this, and not the whole group of believers as a whole. Defending your faith is not a petty argument, but a bold proclamation. SmilingJack is right that we should be prepared to defend the faith. The problem is most of us know too little, and don't always defend it so gently. On that note, Phoenix Wright is just simply awesome.

While it is very important that as a Christian you know what it is that you believe in and why you believe, Christianity does not need defenders. God and Christianity have stood the test of time and will forever stand. As a Christian, I shy not to defend my belief. And I always defend my religion and view of God by living a life worthy of admiration.

You yourself have seen the result of religious debate(s). Often times, it turned into a superheated argument rather that being informative in a way that will allow both parties to learn about each other's religion or belief objectively. There are meaningful ways to discuss subjects (not just a controversial topic like religion) which allows individuals involve to get the beneficial things out of it.
