Many of us believe that young people have nothing valuable to teach older people. However that is not always the case. You people can teach older people about technology, young culture and youth related social issues. What is your reaction? young people are usually better at using new forms of technology than older people. Older people can learn to use computers from young people. This is true to other technologies too. For example. I taught my grandparents how to use a video cassette recorder when i was thirteen years old. They did not know what it could do? what do you say? Have any experiences to share? Did you teach anything to any elders or any old people came to you saying that he or she wants to learn something new?

Of course they can, their is always room for learning. What you stated about technology is really important and very true today. But generally old people may have missed some experiences when they were younger, that the new generation have experienced and may be able to explain to the older generation. Vise verse, old people can always teach young people as well. The learning ability for either generations is always so great, that learning has to be constant even when you are old. But of course old people can be arrogant, but it is great when both the new and old generation share experiences and ideas.

Yea you are right. Many new things are coming up which were not there during older generations. Young ones will have better idea about new technologies.

Yes they can teach older ones something.I have a good example for you that I seen with my own eyes and hears. My little boy is in elementary school and he is only 7.Myself and his dad has always taught him to respect others.Everyone is different and we need to embrace that and be nice to everyone.Anyways I go to the school and pick him up everyday instead of letting him ride the bus.Just about every time I go in there parents are always gossiping and talking about each other. The exact opposite of what were trying to teach our kids.So they need to learn respect from some of these little ones.

Yea discipline must be taught to the children as early as possible. It is good thing that you are doing. I know there are people who would say " you can't teach an older dog new tricks". How ever, it is plain to me that the young have plenty to teach the old if htey take the time to try. When they do, I think both gain a new appreciation for each other.

Older people teach about their experience and younger people should consider such issues. I strongly think younger generation too have something to teach older ones. Like you said technology, generation culture and other things. The sharing should be in both ways. Let it be younger r older, one should not feel they are always right. My parents always consider my opinion.

I fully agree with you. Older can teach more to younger ones. yea older must treat younger ones like there children and youth must treat back them like parents. Of coure, there are more serious issues about which younger people can teach older people. As with computer, today's children have grown up knowing about AIDs and school violence. That is not true for older generations. Here, again, children can teach older people about things that are important to everyone.

yes younger people can teach older one's,i admit that older people have more experience than youngers but it doesnt mean that youngers cant teach old people, young peoples can utilize new resources in better way as compared to old buddies, also they can manage new generation better than old peoples but it totally depends on situation and time both old and young people have equal importance,we learn many things from our elders and also we learn many things from our friend circles and our parents or elder ones also learn many things from us and our friends hence we can say that both has equal importance and both can learn from each other it depends on situation.

Yea you are right. Older peoples have more experiences than the younger ones. Older people are usually not familiar with youth culture, and younger people can help here too. This is important because it can help older people live a more enjoyable life. For example, popular music is generally youth oriented, and older people don't always listen to it. However, when young people teach them about it, they may come to enjoy it. My grandfather never listened to popular music before. I introduced him to it. Now he enjoys it i think.

Of course. :), I remember helping my parents and grandparents in learning some stuffs in using cellphones. Also, helping my aunt and cousins to certain in things on the computer. It really depends on the situation, anyway regardless of the age, people should be happy if they have the opportunity to help others.

Of course the young people can teach the elders. Since the young people learn everything faster. And they can adjust to new technology in a short time. So it is alright for them to teach their parents. For example, I have no idea about music and I have to consult my son. It is normal and I will not feel ashamed to it. It makes my little child to be proud because mom doesn't know everything. He knows that he can even know more than me. I love China

Yes, I do believe that younger people can teach older people things. I work with pre-k children and they surprise me pretty much everyday on what they know and what they say. I even learn something new from children from time to time. As for me teaching someone older than me, well my younger brother and I showed my Mom how to check her e-mail. Now it may sound simple to us, but it might be intimidating to someone who is from a different generation. My Mom also has a cell phone now and she always said she would never have one. I am so glad she has one, even if she only uses it for emergencies.

Nice discussion my friend, Yes! indeed we can teach our elders a lot, we ourselves can also learn from small kids about day to day life issues for example when you are depressed in your relationship look at the small kids wheater beaten up or said anything worng after a little while they always smile that should be our life, its many things we can learn from younger ones too. As talking about my experience i had thought my grandfather in terms of technology on how to use a mobile, my grandfather never used a high tech mobile before he used the 90's only mobile which is now outdated today, so i had a great experience in teaching my grandfather how to function a mobile phone. Such things gives us a great sense of happiness.

Oh my! this is what I am doing right now. . To think that my Mom is actually a mathematics professor of a high standard university then she keeps on asking me on how to do with microsoft excel in repeatable times. When it comes to facebook she tends to ask me all over again regarding the options. The funny thing is that she is calling me on the cellphone on how to install the usb broadband internet. I could also imagine that if we got older then we will be the one who will ask our grandchildren. Most of the elders are already lazy to read instructions from the manual that is why they keep on asking the young ones on how to do it. Or they got easily confuse. My mother is actually a professor of masters and PHD so chances are she has students that are really far older than her.

Hi there! I do not mind sharing my knowledge with elders and if there is anything which I can explain to them, I do it in details, provided they evinced interest. On the other hand I always remain willing to learn new things from the younger generation. I believe learning is a life long process and I should be open to learning new things.

I am fortunate to be on the receiving end of being taught how to use the computer by my computer savvy son. I was born in an era where computer was not even heard of. When I bought a new computer I was totally ignorant of its usage. I just stood behind my son and watched him surf the net. Looking at my eagerness to learn he taught me from A to Z how to surf the net. And that was the beginning of how I become addicted to net surfing.

Hi! This is my first time to response to an issue. I think it is common that young people teach older ones these days. Sometimes I teach my mother how to use photoshop, teach my father how to make ppt files when he has to give a presentation, and teach my aunt English. Although English is not my mother tongue, I learn it much better than my aunt learns.

I read thru the views of the people here that responded to your discussion. Well it depends what kind teachings will the younger one teaches. The old one have the years of experiences that makes them learned and there are old one that can not accept the fact that a young one should teach them...there is a saying you cant teach an old dog with new tricks...true enuf specially if the old ones has already close thier minds to what the young ones could teach them...every individual has each own different paths of learning...an old one can teach his experiences of the old ways...while the young one is more adept in the present and future technology...its better that both the old and young interact and learn from each other...the old ones to give a view the past to the young one and learn from it and the young ones to give a view of the future to the old ones and look forward to what it holds.

yeah,I believe that young people can teach older coz it's hap pine to my brother in-law becoz in his time computer is not common not like this time.So when his kids was in high school they are the one who teach their father how to use the computer. Even me when I started to learned how to use the computer my nephew also teach me about it .So young people have more knowledge than older people in terms of technology.

We have to respect and obey oldere people, partly because they have more experiance and knowledge than us,so what they say is almost true. However, that does'nt mean that they know everything and younge people have nothing to teach them. Long time ago when science and technology did'nt developed yet ,young people learned only through books which were already read by most older people and through older experiance. So it is obvious that younger have nothing to teach the elderly. Now a days things were changed. With the development of technology young people can learn from any means of communication like TV,radio and so on.With the development of technology knowledge is open to every one,and older people also have to learn from the younger. Also, because younger people have more time and strength, they can gain more information than the older ones. The statement "that there is nothing that young people can teach the old people" is'nt still true now a days.
