What are your sleeves for?

For wiping my mouth.
Well, of course, they are originally for fighting cold and sunlight, to protect our skin and everything. To hide a person's armpit.
I just used my sleeves for wiping my mouth this morning. Well, it happened all of a sudden. I was eating something with oozing liquid and the liquid escaped my mouth and I immediately tried to prevent it by raising my arm and wiping my mouth with my sleeves.
It was instinct! lol My god, where are my manners! lol
So for what other purpose do you use your sleeves for?

A good use of the sleeves is to protect your arms of the corn leaves. When you walk in a cornfield, you must protect your hands or else it will hurt your arms' skin.
It is not too comfortable to wear long sleeves in hot, summer days, but it is better to be warm than to cut your arms into the corn leaves.
Have you ever walked into a cornfield with your bare arms?

Hi octav! Nope, I haven't walked into a cornfield but I can imagine how it must hurt to be cut by corn leaves!
There's a type of clothing here called fisherman shirt and it has long sleeves basically to protect the fishermen from heat of the sun and also probably from cold when they go fishing.

Yes, that's true! Sleeves can also protect us from mosquitoes. And it's really irritating if mosquitoes are able to "break in" into the sleeves.
I wonder how their "needle" is able to do that!

Long sleeves shirts is a formal attire. It is usually worn by executives or the ones working in the office. You look dignified if you wore them.It also serves as a protection from cold, summer heat and yes to cover our armpits too.LOL

I guess it's natural for most of the men but there are some too who gets conscious exposing hairs of their armpits. Maybe they think others could be annoyed seeing them.

Yes, there are some who don't want their armpit's hair exposed. But most men when they are at home or just in the neighborhood they don't care at all. I guess it's just normal especially if the weather is hot.

Actually, do you know why there are buttons on the sides of suit jacket sleeves, military and other official uniforms, and other nice clothing? To keep people from wiping their nose, face, etc. with their sleeve!
The metal buttons are supposed to act as a deterrent--I guess the idea is, if you scratch your face often enough, you'll stop using your sleeves as a napkin or tissue. . .

Because the buttons will hurt the face if wiped by the sleeves? That's a new trivia for me.

Supposedly Napoleon ordered his troops' uniforms to have buttons on the FRONTS of their sleeves to keep the soldiers from wiping their noses on them and making the uniforms look yucky. . .

You can still wear sleeved shirts and not have sweaty armpits, right?

Yeah, I never cared about it until now that you started a discussion about it. Now I am wondering for what purpose those sleeves are for me. I don't know. Maybe to impart a T-shape to shirts so that we can call them T-shirts?
But yes, I do use them for wiping sweat from my forehead or face whenever I am playing.

I think the sleeves came first before they called it a T-shirt.
You play what sports? I remember my softball days, I would also use my sleeves to wipe my sweat in my forehead.

Oh yeah! It should be the other way around.
Well, I am into most racket sports like table tennis, badminton and tennis. I am a sweaty guy and since I perspire a lot I have to wipe those sweat out of my face to focus on the game. I play some basketball too, however, it usually uses a sando or sleeveless shirt when playing it. Now I know the purpose of those sleeves! It should be used as a cover for my biceps and arm muscles so that girls around won't come bugging me to flex it for them.
Yeah! Call me weird at that!

That's true, Jill! I do that, too! Well, that's keeping my hands warm that is. Although I think I have used my sleeves, too for cleaning purposes but not of glass.

I would never do that, secret!! It's so disgusting!! lol :D No matter what, i will make sure my sleeves are clean, because i need them for rest of the day. I dun mind being dirty for the little while, with those food around my mouth.. haha
When i'm eating, i will be sure to pull up my sleeves because i know it's an instinct, and i might end up like u.. haha. Also, some tables might be dirty and we might not notice it either.. hehe

But if you're inside the office you won't get sweaty since the room is air conditioned, right?

Thank you for sharing that!
I did not know that sleeves are really used for wiping runny nose. Is that acceptable? Because I find it a little gross.
You've got allergies, too? Same here!!!!
But whenever my eyes get teary eyed, I wipe them with my hands.

hello secret,
You made me laugh my friend (hehehe)
I am sure that's instinct, since you don't have enough time to pick a tissue or your hanky, that out of consciousness you wiped it with your sleeves.
Most of my dress are half sleeves, not to hide my armpit/s- hehehe.
I like wearing half sleeves to look more oldies (thu I am a bit old already -ahaha)
Have a good day

I have never used my sleeves to wipe off anything from my face, but I have seen this action done by many people, kids and men especially. Well, I see to it that I wear clothes with sleeves when I go to certain places in which I need to wear a more decent or formal outfit. There are establishments in our place which have dress codes and do not allow the wearing of sleeveless, miniskirts, shorts, etc.

Hi cutie! Yes, of course. Sleeved shirts look more formal than sleeveless clothes and is usually more presentable.

I find that absolutely disgusting!! I am not going to wipe my mouth with my clothes not only because of how it looks, but because I have to wear the clothes for the rest of the day. I always keep spare napkins in my purse, in case something happens. This way if I wipe something up, I can throw away the dirty napkin.

At that time, it was either wipe my mouth or the liquid will drop into my clothes... I had lots of tissues in my bag but it was far away.

This happens only if the mosquitoes are not that aggressive that they bite through the sleeves.
