How do you feel when someone tells you they don't like an anime you like?

Because everyone else likes it? And when you ask them if they ever gave it a shot, they say no and they only give you the most negative reviews about it. Have you ever tried to get them to watch said show or do you just abandon it as a lost cause? What shows that you like in particular get this kind of treatment?

I'm totally cool with it if they say they dislike it after trying to watch it.. but I hate it when they say they hate it even before trying out the series. How can you hate a series which you haven't even tried watching? I usually can't be bothered to persuade them to watch it as it's their loss. An example i can think of is One Piece. Some people found the art weird and decided not to watch it. I'm cool with them not watching it but I don't like it when they start criticizing the series despite knowing nothing about the series. They can choose what they want to watch but please only comment on series they have watched before.

It took me around 20 or so episodes to get into One Piece. The art is actually not simple.. but it's definitely not the prettiest. In fact, most of the characters are ugly rather than pretty. However, I love the character developments and how the different subplots intertwines throughout the series. It's amazing that even after 513 episodes and 637 chapters, the readers still get wowed by the story and characters. I actually started watching Bleach first, Naruto second and One Piece last. But now, I like One Piece the best among the big three shounen series.

I never hated the anime One piece but I didn't watch it because of the art style and a design of characters were too simple. I know that makes me shallow. After playing a video game crosxover of Naruto,One Piece and Dragonball and see how One piece characters fight,I have a regret, I should l not given it a chance. I'm waiting for a television rerun and I'm considering to watch it and give it a chance. I do admit I'd pre judge it because of its art style. It's a weird that on the video game cross over battle arena D.O.N , I used luffy and zoro the most.

Hi poohgal :) Same with me. I watched Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece. For Bleach, I had to watch the first 10 episodes before it became my favorite. For Naruto, I already liked it after I watched the first episode. For One Piece, I had to watch lots of episodes before I liked it. Now, One Piece is my favorite among the three. It doesn't have boring moments and the I love the character developments. I love the episodes about Chopper and Robin, kind of made me cry a bit. :)

It doesn't really bother me when someone tells me that they don't like an anime I do. It does go both ways. I might not like something that someone else likes after all. We are all entitled to our own opinions. But I do get a bit annoyed when someone knocks down a show and talk bad about it without even seeing a single episode of it. How is their opinion supposed to be taken seriously when that happens. I've come across that so many times in various forums. There's always someone talking trash about a show that they have never even seen. They just base their views on what other people say. Then they get all defensive when you suggest that you go see the show first (or at least the first episode) before saying anything. I generally avoid those people. I can't really think of any show I like that gets that type of treatment. Most of the time I get people asking me what the heck I'm talking about because they've never heard of the show before.

I'm not bothered as well, as long as they can tell my why they don't like it and be able to stand up for it. I get hours of nice discussions that way and they're very enjoyable. But people who are all talk and can't back up their own opinions are really annoying to talk to. It's like I want to tell them to get their own opinions and watch the show. Luckily, I haven't started a fight yet by running my mouth like that. And yes, it's a shame when people don't know what you're talking about.

I think I experienced that too- but I don't really force them to watch it though, I just let them be..It's their loss anyway. Different people have different tastes for everything I guess.

I don't get this very often as I am a rather antisocial person, but on the net, I have read so many bad opinions on anime that I really like. To be honest, I cannot even try to understand why people do not like some anime I do, this is because I just do not think it is my own opinion that they are good, I think it's a pretty objective fact. They, however, call it bad, for whatever reason. Noncomformists, though, really piss me off. I really dislike dealing with those kinds of people and I avoid them, but when I do end up meeting one I may blow a casket...

I don't like nonconformists very much either, especially if they're doing what they do for reasons of looking cool or something and not something more meaningful, like a cause. I understand what you mean by weighing the worth of an anime. Taking certain criteria like art, story, idea, character development and what not, you can really claim some shows to be the real deal. And then you come across these people who say they hate it because the fanbase is a hate-able thing. It's really annoying sometimes.

It actually is irritating sometimes. Some of them are making fun of me because I'm watching a cartoon. Excuse but it's anime not cartoon lol. But I got used to it. The anime that I watch are are really good, and I could not care less about the comments anymore. If they won't give it a shot, then it's not my problem. It's not me who's missing something good. :))

You need to respect their opinion. It will be better to just be friendly.

I really dont mind when someone tells me that they don't like an anime that I like. Its okay for people to have different tastes in a variety of including anime. I watch a lot of different animes that many of my friends haven't heard of or like and thats okay. To each his own.

Hi Harck! Honestly if it is an anime that I really really like, I will feel a bit irritated. But of course we do have different opinions. I will just try to point out a reason or two why that anime is good. If someone will still say bad comments about it, I'll just leave it as is.

If im talking to someone who doesn't like the anime I like I just try to change the topic and talk about something else. I can't stand people who pays anime and response on a topic about anime. I also hate people calling anime cartoons because for me it's on a league of its own. There was a time though I really got pissed off to a self proclaimed anime fan bashing the clasics just because they were old.

I usually don't care but sometimes if it's so good I can force them to sit down for at least an episode to see for themselves it is truly really good. I do get annoyed sometimes but you can't really change peoples' minds. So let it be.

I tried to get a friend of mine into anime but failed miserably!!!I think anime is underated in ocidental cultures(Although the number of anime fans is rising with the current globalisation)!!!I think anime is one of the best things man has ever created, even thought it is an "ilusion" , it serves me as an escape for the hard life I have(I'm serious)!!! I usually watch comedy/romantique/school life animes like Toradora and School Rumble but i watch shows like naruto too!
