I have taken vitamins for years and years. It seems lately that when I take my vitamins I am getting heart burn. I've tried taken then immediately after earing and taking them with a big glass of water but it doesnt seem to help. Its not to terrible but its been bothering me a little bit lately. Luckily the heartburn doesnt last to long. Whats your experience with vitamins. Has it ever seemed to cause heartburn for you.

My advice is to get your vitamin intake straight from healthy foods in their natural form instead of from vitamin tablets. That way you are getting a complete foods with everything intact which will help the body with digestion and with dispersing those vitamins throughout the body properly. I used to take vitamins years ago when I ate crap foods and I regularly had heartburn. This I suspect was more to do with my diet at the time though. I have not had heartburn for many years now and I put that down to the fact that I eat lots of whole foods and virtually no processed foods.

I eat a lot of pasta and things like that. I dont make sure that I eat the right amount of each food group each day. I am sure that just on my diet alone I would never get all the vitamins and nutrients my body needs. For instance I am a vegetarian. To me along with what I eat it is important for me to take a multi-vitamin.

I am a vegetarian too but pretty much all vegan. You can get all your vitamin and mineral needs while still remaining a vegetarian. The problem with many vegetarians and vegans is that they do eat too many grains. Bread, pasta and rice makes up far too much of their diet. Along with products made from soy. When we give up meat, we give up the minerals that come with it, so we need to get that from somewhere else. Many turn to supplements and vitamins, but plants will provide us with all we need. Eating more fresh produce, particularly leafy greens instead of grains will boost our health massively. Organic produce is the key too as it is nutritionally much more powerful than non organic produce.

no heart burn for me and i take vitamins for longer than i can remember. i think there might be something wrong with your heart that does not relate to the vitamins. vitamins do not work right away. they need time to be digested. so i dont think they are the real problem.

Ahh that is a very good point. But they might dissolve quickly in the stomach acids and maybe the coating on the vitamin is causing my heartburn. It may be something that I am eating though but I really dont know. After taking my vitamins it feels like I have a lump stuck in my throat but I have swallowed the vitamins. Then the heartburn starts. Maybe there is something going on with my thyroid.

This is the reason I don't like taking any pills even when I'm sick. I also get a little heartburn. And that's why I don't like taking any vitamins too. I think I still have the bottle of centrum that I bought more than 3 years ago. It's a bit of a dilemma as I don't eat healthy and I could really use some vitamins in my system.

Hi shaggin Ever since my childhood till I was affected with Ulcerative colitis, I was taking these Vitamins on a daily basis and did not have that heartburn. But now, since the fact that I am consuming many more other medicines, I did have these heartburns and the octors told me to stop taking them. They said that when on some medication, there are some stuff that goes with the medicines and there is some that doesnt go. Again, these multi-vitamins and vitamin C are known to cause the heart burns. In case you are on some other medications I think you should consult the doctors about what vitamins can be consumed with the medicines. In case you are not on any other medications, I think you should consult your doctor.

That is interesting. I dont think it has anything to do with the other medicines that I take though but I dont know for sure. I take celexa for depression and lamictal for bi-polar disorder. I dont even know for sure if the vitamins are what is causing the heart burn but I think it is possible. If I dont take them I am so tired I cannot get through the day.

Yes, they have caused some problems with me. I can't swallow capsules, so I break them open and eat the powder - result heartburn! Same with those huge tablet types that you have to crunch before swallowing. I found some large plastic coated things (well they aren't exactly capsules but something like them) that have a wet, gooey mess inside. They go down without problems. So, I think you need to try different types.

I don't think that vitamins are creating problem. More investigation is required why heartburn is there probably you may be having acidity problem, you better try some alternative medicine like Ayurveda or some yogic practice to overcome the problem.

Yes, I'm taking vitamins regular. It's a multi-vitamins with antioxidant. I didn't felt any heartburn. Maybe, it depends on the vitamins. I'm taking vitamins that has a 96% absorption rate and has no overdose.
