I have owned a timeshare for many years, and been a member of RCI for the whole time. I have often exchanged our week in Galveston for a vacation in other places. Recently I have been getting encouragement/pressure to move from my "weeks" membership to RCI's "points" membership. What do you think, especially if you have faced such a decision.

I have a week with Interval and points somewhere else. The point system is a scam as I see it. When they sold it to me, they told me that so many points would mean 1 week at a given place. Now you need more points to go there for a week. There are all kinds of excuses. As for the timeshare, I have had no problem in over 15 years. Once I was offered to trade. My week for points. I listened but they accepted my week at half th actual price. NO DEAL!!!

It happened to me and I felt I should tell you. The people who sell are very insistant that you should do it their way. With my timeshare in Aruba I have gone to many parts of the world, trading the week or getting a getaway offer. I don“t think that is so easy if you have points.

It is lovely that you have a timeshare. If I was you I would ignore or challenge the pressure to change your week. You have been a member for years so I don't think that you should move your week. I know that sometime is valuable to exchange your week for a different destination but not every year. Good luck.

thanks for the input, maximax. Sometimes change from a comfortable position is not worth the trouble. I stayed with my rotary phone for a long time.

I have both weeks and points. the advantage of points is you can use points for partial week stays. If you want to travel around during you vacation points can be an advantage.
Recently I used points to travel to Williamsburg for 3 night while my son was stationed in Fort Lee. I was then able to get a time share at Myrtle Beach for 2 nights and was able to visit with relatives before going on to Florida.
I will not pay the outrageous price they want to convert weeks to points. If they will change for an administrative fee of say $100 or $200 I would do it but not thousands of dollars.
