I think most teen magazine set out to increase teenager self esteem, but instead just lower it. Magazines include of celebrities and how they are just like you, health tips on how to get a better body in the five minutes, and fashion makes over than a no average person would really try.I think that by the very facts that magazines try to make us feel better about ourselves, that we can get the same great buys as celebrities and look just like them they are actually lowering our self esteem.

I think teen magazines have slim models in. The teens feel too fat and less than beautiful. They read about relationships and feel they should be in one. The look at the fashion pages and desire getting new clothes. I think that the magazines do end up lower self esteem of the teens.

I think it depends on what kind of person you are. If you are open-minded it doesn't really matter what you read or hear, you already know your self good enough to know what's best for you.

I think a lot of teenagers can be drastically affected by a lot of the things that they see in the media. A lot of the things that they see in the media can really make them second guess themselves. It can really do a number of self esteem of a person as they see certain things how they are depicted in the media and how they can really are not going to obtain that level. So yes it can really lead to a huge problem and can really cause an understated self esteem to be developed. It does make me want to shake my head from side to side, when a lot of these teenagers are really going to be rather too obsessed with maintaining a certain body image. Then again, this is not just a teen thing where their self esteem gets dinged, adults are not immune to it either. It is a vicious cycle.

The issue with magazine you are saying should not be serious enough. I think these are just for entertainment alone. I don't think it can affect your self esteem that much. In fact, it makes you know more about your celebrity idol. In that way, you can mimic him/her in some ways and be confident of yourself. :)

The media always trying to worm themselves into our brains, especially vulnerable teenagers who don't have the self-esteem. I do to a girl's school and they always tend to admire beautiful celebrities. I sometimes do too. Though, these magazines that teenagers read should not be taken literally, they could be just lies or just for entertainment. Some even talk about disturbing topics which teenagers shouldn't even be exposed too. It depends on the person though, I read the magazines but I won't literally starve myself just to lose weight if the magazine tells me too.
