Do you ever get the feeling you aren't supposed to start a certain discussion?

I have tried three times to start the same discussion. The first two times I couldn't even get the subject title written without constant interruption from the Pasting error message when I wasn't trying to paste. About every three letters it would stop me. I finally gave up and went to another site. A few mintues ago I thought maybe I shoudl swtich browers, so I went to the Windows half of this I-MAC, opened Explorer, and tried to start the discussion there. I got the forms filled in just fine with no error messages and then when I clicked on "start discussion," I got an error message from Explorer 9 about some sort of connection problems and lost all I had written. Because of the no paste rule, I can't back up what I write and paste in back in if I lose it. Maybe I should just forget starting discussions until I get to 500 -- if I ever do. I'm wondering if I should even try to start that discussion again. What is your most frustrating experience on myLot?

hello bagarad, I am here on mylot now for more than 3 years, and I have started so many discussions, but I never experiences something like you have mentioned. But that does not mean that there is something wrong in your starting the discussions or that you should not start a particular discussion. Also you don't have to stop till you reach 500. I am sure it was a technical problem. Sometimes it just happens. You should ignore such tiny errors and keep trying........and I see that you have already started new discussions, so you are on right path, so all that I will say is happy my-lotting and keep writing.

Thank you for the encouragement. I do't intend to stop trying. I want to get to 500 so those messages won't pop up anymore. That is very good motivation to keep trying.

i kept on getting that pasting error message too, yesterday, bagarad, so don't take it personally. i think it was a mylot problem. though to be honest, i sometimes find that i am trying to do something, and it all goes wrong and i just can't do it, especially on the computer, and then something happens, and maybe i find out some new information or something, and i realise that what i wanted to say or do wasn't quite right. so maybe leave it a day or two, and see what happens, and you will have an even better discussion to start!

i kept getting that error message yesterday, when i tried to post anything, it was very annoying as everything i had written then disappeared. i sent a message to admin and it seems to be ok today, so far. if it continues for you then maybe you need to contact them too.

I'm hoping the problem will go away. I'll keep chugging towrd 500 so it won't matter. Maybe it was a discussion I wasn't supposed to start. Who knows?

I think the simple thing is to start the discussions in the my lot text page and get used to writing on the sly. I do often wonder about certain discussions but with me it is that they take so slow and so I imagine the my lot staff reading it and saying to each other, "say did you read this?" and either rolling on the floor laughing or being extremely shocked. I have no idea how you are having problems. I would think that if you are having problems starting a new discussion in a certain subject, you might have problems even when you get past the 500. Have you checked your connection? And is it also happening when you try to write an email or something like that?

I just thought of something. You say you have an iMac. When I got mine, they advised me not to put the Windows on it, but completely keep it Mac. I also use Safari and Chrome. That might help.

That could be it. I sometimes look for a substitute program in mac. And often I use the free programs, so perhaps there are not enough people using it. I find that you cannot assume that everyone works seven days a week. I expect if you are a police officer or a nurse, you will. I always assume that with religion, if you are Christian you would not work on Sunday, Jewish you would not work on SAturday, and so on. I remember when we had to go into a store on a Sunday, and there were a lot of Jewish people, Hindo, and Musllims there because for the first, this was their Saturday. If you are in a child care industry you would work on Sunday. I did read that you write, and with me, I will not write my novel on Sunday, but I will be here on my lot as I consider this is fun and not work.

I have to have Windows on this computer because a program I use for business only runs on Windows and there is no program that runs in Mac that will do the same job. I use VMFusion to run Windows, because I often need to cut and paste between one side and the other, since my shipping program is in MAC. . As for my connection, it works fine. When IE9 ate my discussion, I had just opened it and had no problems with it opening and loading Yahoo and the new tab for myLot or the page on which to enter my new discussion. I was also able to get email and use the Internet on the MAC side. I just got an answer today saying staff wouldn't have time to reply until after Labor Day. I keep forgetting some people don't work weekends and holidays like I do:)

The most frustrating thing for me is after typing out this long response to a discussion or a discussion itself and forget to copy it, hit submit and the page keeps trying to load but you know its taking to long and you lost all that work. Now that I'm using my phone to particpate I can't copy it. Waiting for everything to be lost. I hate computer problem.

There are many days I wish I could do my work without computers. When they work they are wonderful. When they don't, I hate them.

OH I remember the frustration with not being able to cut and paste. You are going to love it since you tend to write nice long responses. You'll get there Remember too at 200 you get emoticons...on the left there will be a link saying myLot code.

Yesterday I wanted to post a response to a certain topic here but I was barred because it seemed to have a 'mature content'. I tried to figure out where I had written a mature word but I could not locate the word or the phrase that can be termed mature. I erased the whole message and rewrote it one more time, to my surprise it went through. I think sometimes is just a bad day for one or server error.

I've had that happen, except I tried to change my preferences to let me see it and couldn't get back to the page,so I lost the post. Don't you just love these glitches? Wow! you've only got 100 to go before you can paste! Lucky you!

I have experienced a lot of problems when posting discussions or responding to discussions. I am not sure whether it is my computer's fault, the connection or from mylot. Sometimes when I finished typing and press post response the whole discussion that I've typed just vanish. Since I think and type at the same time, I've no way to trace what I've written but to redo the whole discussion. Now I am a little smarter, before I send I'll copy the whole discussion. In case it disappears it will be easy for my to paste the discussion or response that I copied earlier.

Stop! You are making me jealous of your points again. I want to be able to do the copy / paste backup, too. I thought I'd hit th magic 200 last night so I could make my first post today with some added color, but when I woke up this morning the magic 200 had changed to 198.

I did have the same thing happen once and after I got the discussion posted and it was up for a couple of days they cancelled it for some reason which I never understood!

LOL, once I had several tabs open and was typing replies to 3 different discussions and for some reason myLot got its nerves switched so that my reply to one person ended up in the other person's discussion so that my replies did not make any sense in the context. Another time I had difficulty getting images uploaded. I spent about 1/2 hour just on one image and finally gave up. But don't give up! It really does get easier. Yes, sometimes there are glitches, but usually all is well in the end. What I would suggest is to use "preview response" instead of "post response" until you get to your 500, and look, you are almost halfway there already!

Well, theoretically, hitting preview doesn't change anything and gives us a chance to make corrections, but I see your concern. The good news is you are getting so close to 500 posts now that it is going to be a moot question pretty soon.

Not being able to paste in mylot can be quite frustrating. But soon you will get to 500 and it will all be history. I usually use firefox for mylot and it seems it is quite stable. In fact I prefer firefox for all my browsing experience because of the stability I think it gives me compared to other browsers. I recommend you use firefox for a while and see if there is an improvement in your mylot experience.

Honestly, the most frustrating thing that I ever had to happen to me since I've been a member of mylot is with discussions that I've started that have had a lot of responses and then for some reason, the discussion ended up getting deleted. The thing that I really wish that they would do when a discussion is deleted is to let the person that started the discussion know the reason that the discussion was deleted.

I wa really caught off guard when this happened to me, but they did give a reason. They said it was a poll type question. I'm convinced, rightly or wrongly that if you summarize your topic in question form to capture interest, and the question has the word "or" between two choices, they consdier it a poll and don't go any farther to your more detailed introduction to your discussion that would show that it isn't. Also, If it appears anyone could answer your question with a simple yes or no, fidn a different way to ask it. Maybe it's easier to not but the subject as a question at all and save the questions for the description. What I really don't get is how many discussions that seem to be personal blog-like entries stay up, when those are also against guideline. Or, maybe they do get deleted and I don't know because I don't respond to them because I fear they will be deleted. I don't respond to anything that doesn't have a question in it somewhere.

I never really encountered anything like you explained. But I have experienced MyLot being slow at times. I can see you're a person of good taste, using an iMac. Aren't they the best? When I notice that MyLot or any site that I am on is slow, I just go onto another site. I do check every once in a while to see if the slow site is working. But sometimes I give up until the next day. I don't think it's a big deal. You could have contacted MyLot and explained the problem.

I've started few discussions because it's not easy for me. Yeah, I meditate a while before I get starting a new discussion. Maybe later I could get more practice and skills in order to start discussions more often. I still have not reached 500 responses, so I can't use the copy paste option too. I've experienced the same thing like you. Many times I was ready with my response and I got it lost because I couldn't post it. I wrote it again and finally it got published. Now I'm saving a copy of my comments and so I can write the same again.
