Do you think violent video games affect children's mental health?

Nowadays playing video games among children and adolescents is very common. Many children prefer spending hours playing these games than other indoor or outdoor games. Video games do help children to stimulate their brains but they have got their evil sides also. Generally parents do not allow their children to watch violent movies. However, quite often when buying video games for their kids, parents don't take the ratings (13+, 18+) seriously. In turn, we find children playing violent games which I believe the effects are worse than watching violent movies. The reason as to why I say this is because while playing violent games, it is actually as if the person is acting it out but of course it is only virtual. Parents discourage their children to be violent but unknowingly, they encourage them to be violent. How about you myLot users? What are your opinions?

Sure they do. Just like the new cartoons full with violence, the same goes with the video games.

agreed totally !! those rating should be taken seriously !! kids donot necesarily posses the maturity to differentiate between what is right and what isnt and tend to grow up thinking that violence is acceptable :(

I agree with both of you also. It is a sad but true fact of life. Wonder what will happen to the next young generation.

I dislike the new generation's choice of games. Games outdoor are much more engaging and mentally stimulating. It promotes social interaction and physical fitness. Indoor games only promote violence. Most games, one must attain supremacy over another. WInning is essential. Outdoor games, this is also the case but apparently, it enables one to embrace losing healthily because of team support. Oh I just miss the good old days of playing late afternoon just running. That is nostalgic.
