Do you think Lea Salonga will be criticized?

Miss Saigon Judge - lea salonga one of the judges
Philippines
September 9, 2011 11:08pm CST
Hello Lotters, We all know now through the news that Singer and Actress Lea Salonga will be one of the leading Judges for the Miss Universe 2011. I am thinking a lot of Filipinos would think of Lea rooting for supsup all the way, but when she mentioned she will be fair, it struck me with the question that is on the title of my topic. Of course, in my point of view now, it's just no big deal what ever her decision is since she will be a bit critic to every candidate, including to our Ms. Philippines. you know the majority is, the sensitive ones? You think this might happen? her getting bashed if supsup looses?

well, it will be both ways. criticized by fellow Pinoys for not being able to do something for supsup to win, or criticized by other people from other nations if supsup wins. but still, i think, it would not matter what people will say. lea will stand to her reputation of being credible and respectable.

Hello Bingskee, You're right either she wins or loose US or Lea will be criticized. Criticism will never disappear for some reason. I agree and llike you I will stand by her decision and her reputation as a good judge and critic of the candidates but a respectable one. have a Nice day.

I think that Lea should really be objective about it. Wouldn't it be worse if, say, Shamsey won just because there was a Filipino judge? I'd rather that she won because she deserved it. There's no reason to doubt that she can make it, so there is no need for the "support" from the judge. But, "support" from us fellow kababayans, that's entirely a different matter. Could add to her confidence...So, let's just root for her!!!

Hello Gloryacam, I hope things will get better for her in the competition. Well, if she win then it would bring about some controversies about the problem about her winning simply because of a Filipino Judge. yes we should just support her so that she would have high chance of winning. Have a Nice day.

Hello Nieldc, That's alright my friend at least she had won something in the beauty pageant. I hope things will turn out alright for our candidate, i hope that she gets to be part of the showbiz industry.I think she has done what she can do to win and she got the third part. Have a Nice day.

Lea is witty and an intelligent person. If there's anything that she would avoid it's to be accused of giving a hometown decision. Besides, our candidate is as beautiful and as sexy as any other candidate in that pageant which mean she's very capable of holding her own. All in all, Lea is only one in seven judges. If the candidate loses that mean the other candidates are better and Lea has nothing to do with the loss.

Hello Ybong, Mot definitely but i can't help thinking knowing that we have a Filipino Judge and a FIlipino contestant there. I hope you're right, indeed there are seven Judges there, i forgot actually i thought they were only THREE of them there. thanks for telling me and have a nice day

I think the pressure is more on lea. If our candidate loses, some people will blame her for it, for not giving a high mark. If the candidate wins there will be people who'll accuse her of favoring a candidate. The good thing is she's just one in seven. The real problem is when there's only three judges and she's one of them. That would be a real challenge.

Ms. Angola made it because of Ms. Saigon! I have been thinking what if it happens that Shamcey picked Lea Salonga as her judge then it happens that Shamcey had the crown. I think there could be still intrigues in regards to that.

Hello Metatronik, Don't worry I have seen that discussion of yours. thank you for giving this clear information but in anyways, people would still criticize her for it.

Oooppss!!!! correction I just knew it that Lea was not the one who have written the question it was only given by the organizers of Miss U.

I criticize her now because she throw a very easy question to Ms. Angola which basically handed her the crown in a silver platter. On the contrary, the question asked to Ms. Philippines was like asking her if her religious convictions are correct.

Criticize the organizers who have written that kind of easy and overused question. It just so happened that Lea have picked that lucky draw. Here's the link http://twitter.com/#!/MsLeaSalonga/status/113514407891439616

Hello Greenpeas, I can understand you're disappointment here. like what i have said before, she will be criticized, one way or the ohter. besides, she did her best to answer the question but some how the judges didn't seem to approve her answer, or at least to some of them. Have a nice day.

i think there is nothing wrong with her being the judge. i think there is a hint of hope for this though, it is a good thing that one of ours is up there, and is given the privilage to judge on one of the most prestigious competition for women right?

Hello Chiyosan, I hope it's not what you thought it would be because she can be a bait for either criticism. either that she would certainly get criticised but of course, she did her job. anyways, things will calm down because she won third runner up.Have a nice day.

If Actress Lea Salonga has been appointed as one of the judges for a prestigious event, the organizers must be aware of her judging prowess. It’s an exercise in futility to sing gossip melodies and create unnecessary rumors. Allow her to do her job efficiently without any interference.

Hello Arlerambabu, I know she's professional most specially when she is trusted into being a judge in this event. Lea may not have been a pageant participant as contestant but she has marked her talent in global showbiz and that's why they were able to choose her as one of the judges in this event. Have a nice day.

How many judges will there be in the pageant? For sure it will not only be Lea Salonga. Even if she got biased and voted for Shamcey all the way, she's just a minority, it will have to be the majority of the votes for Shamcey to win. Unless her vote is equal to 50%? It's just the same if Shamcey wins or loses. Lea's vote is just one part of the total votes.

Hello secretbear,I thought it was just only three but i realized that there are actually seven of them. All of our people of most of the Filipinos through out the world voted for her. She has won the third place, i guess it's better to have earned some thing rather than nothing. congrats to her. have a nice day.

LetranKnight25, Whether she will be fair and/or up to her job as a judge (and a good fair one) will left to be seen. It is not uncommon for former title winners to be called to the judge's table and judge the proceedings for such a prolific event. For one, they possess that invaluable experience as a title holder and hence will know what is required to represent the country and eventually the world when they win. So, previous prerogatives, perceptions and tabloids aside - I feel Salonga should be given an equal chance to prove herself.

Hello Skysuccess, I know She will do her job but i can't help notice the impact of her presence in the Miss Universe Pageant. Maybe it would have been better if there was no Filipino Judge there, i feel something isn't going to feel right. thank you and have a NIce day

I think she will definitely be fair enough in judging. Our candidate, a noted board exam topnotcher will surely do her very best in order for our country and including Lea Salonga to be proud of and thus will not be questioned with the score that she will be giving.

Hello Aabuda, I agree there's no way filipinos cheating there because the judge is one of the best and the candidate is the finest and magna c-u-m laude of Gen San. though it's really not something that we should felt down a lot. Have a nice day.

We can trust Lea, I know how difficult it would be cause as mentioned, she would be in a " damn if you do and damn if you don't situation" but I think her maturity and the respect she has garnered both here and abroad will override all speculations and rumors, perhaps we should all just not think about it altogether, but rather just relax in our seats and enjoy the beauty pageant as it unfurls before our eyes and trust what ever decision comes out of it, think that's the best way to do it.

Hello Louievill, I agree with you that her maturity and her experience in the showbiz entertainment has allowed her to be in this league of different judges in the Miss Universe Pageant. well, too bad though she won third runner up but it's a lot better than her not winning anything. Have a nice day.

You forgot one more worst case scenario, the international community might bash her if our candidate will get a high score from her. You know people will see it as bias regardless if he deserves it or not. On the other hand, I don't really see a candidate to do well in the question and answer department if she's not going to use on interpreter because she always sounds awkward. Plus Donald trump always keep the results. He only makes the country that will benefit his company more.

Hello Captain-Albert, I guess you're right, If she goes all teh way for the Miss Philippines through the whole contest they may not invite her again. this is some thing that can't happen to our very own Lea Salonga to be bashed as a bias, that's the worst thing. I feel bad if the rest are being BIAS. have a nice day.

I think not. Because she is internationally recognized. She didn't only bring proud to her country but to the whole world. She has contributed a lot to the theater industry. She is very beautiful, fluent in english, talented and i think she is very appropriate in that position.
