For those who have read/watched One Piece until the arc where Luffy tries to save Ace, you will have also read about Rayleigh, the former Vice-Captain of Gold Roger's crew. Rayleigh has the Haoshoku Haki otherwise called the Conqueror's Haki where he's able to dominate the will of others and cause those with weak will to be knocked unconscious. Very few people have this Haki as it is not attainable through training. Do you think this is why he's called the Dark King? Because I can't think of other reasons why Rayleigh was given the nickname "Dark King".

Hmm, I think it is too early to know anything about Rayleigh's past. That or we'll never know about his past at all. Though some say, he is known as the "dark king" because of a type of "haki" we have yet to learn. A "dark" type of haki, something people are guessing right now an ability Zoro will also obtain. So basically, if you imagine, Luffy, or Gol D. Roger, having the "kings haki", as they are happy go lucky type of characters, then you have "dark kings haki" from the people containing a personality, Zoro and Rayleigh may share. Quite an interesting idea above . People on "narutoforums.com" have a guess known ask "saki" some sort of killer instinct. The idea for saki according from the forum is the ability to kill somebody using haki. So even though Haki is more than just people feinting, saki may be able to go even further and actually kill them. Also an interesting idea above. Those theories or, the writers just made his name cooler by adding dark king, also a cool idea ha ha. other theories: He could have been a king or royalty in the past, and becoming a pirate or joining Gol D. Roger, made him a dark king, someone who betrayed his people. Other theory is, perhaps it is the translation of the name, from old Japanese tradition to new. (I never really understood this one, but I think they meant a symbol in the writing of the original Japanese Characters made it into "dark king".

Ha ha, yes quite a bit of reading on your question. I just love how One piece, being on for so long is still so far away from being finished. I too hope Zoro learns some sort of ability soon, he does show a lot of traits that Rayleigh has, for example, being always in shape being really muscular. I really hope something even more exciting happens soon, at the same time for some reason I don't want anything exciting , I want to enjoy this series as much as possible, and slowing the suspense in a way may help.
