Trailers are sometimes the whole movie

In so many cases the trailers, on TV or the Internet, for a movie show almost all the good parts. It has gotten so bad that I just don't trust that actually going to a movie will be any better than just watching the trailer. It really makes it hard to decide what to go see because to often you will be disappointed that there is not much more to the movie than you have already seen in trailers. And a quick question; why are they called trailers when they are really previews?

Very true. I much prefer to just watch the movie and get done with it. If I didn't like it then I move on. No idea why it's called trailer, but I believe petersum is right, and I learned something new today.

They are trailers because they used to be shown after the first film in cinemas. You are right! I don't like watching them, I much prefer to read reviews instead. Two minutes of humor when the rest is a yawn!

I totally agree with you! Especially in comedy films, the trailer seems so entertaining and it simply makes you want to watch the entire film. Then when you actually watch the full movie, you realize that the trailer was basically it. All the laughter, the best part of the movie was pretty much in the trailer. It's a real mood downer, might as well watch the trailer than watch the whole thing.

I know what you mean about sometimes a trailer being the whole movie. I've seen one trailer/preview on Youtube that it pretty much gives away practically everything that happens in the movie. And that's the one for the movie Basket Case 3. It's the first time I have ever seen a trailer that lasts almost five minutes. And it quite literally gives away A LOT of what happens in the movie.

Yes, sometimes they show it too much and when I actually watch the movie there's nothing intersting left. They got be careful to not show too much. Specially comedy, how many times did I see a freaky hilarious trailer and the movie was just irritating? They gave out the ONLY funny part hahaha.

I have no idea why they are called trailers, but you are right that sometimes the trailer is better than the movie. There used to be a show on some cable network that was a half hour of upcoming movie trailers. It was an interesting show. Heaven knows they must have worked hard on some of the previews because the movies were often duds.

Unfortunately, some movies are putting the best bits in their trailers to try and entice viewers into the cinema to watch them..and once there, they realise those WERE the high spots that they've already been shown...At least some of the trailer makers will try and throw you a curve ball by changing things around, showing the clips out of sequence to keep you guessing..

I hate that because you're sitting there thinking "If the trailer is this good then the whole movie is going to be a lot better." Then when you actually watch the movie to find every last good piece of it was in the trailer. I stopped going to the movies altogether a couple years ago, too pricy for something that's going to be a drag.

Yeah, that is too bad! Nowadays, a lot of films had this kind of problem. Sometimes the producers are so crazy that the end of the movie is shown in a trailer! I think that happen because they are not doing just one trailer for a movie, they are doing 4, 5, 6 trailers, each one with a part of the movie. So, when you put it all together, even with the repeated scenes, you have seen all good parts of the movie. So I don't see the trailers anymore. Now I ask for a friend or just read the notices and opinions about the movie.
