Friends. Has anyone of you climbed Mt. Tapyas? I would be flying to Coron for a vacation with friends. They said that it was a 746-step trail. Can you compare trekking Mt. Tapyas from Monkey Trail? Is trekking Mt. Tapyas friendly to a metropolitan freak like me? Was it hard?

Just got back from conquering Mt.Tapyas! Coron is amazing!!! From doing the Coron loop island tour, we just had a quick change and headed off to trek Mt. Tapyas. We were in such a hurry because we don't want to miss the sunset. So we climbed the 700 plus steps in more or less 30 minutes. Stopping once in a while to catch our breath. Once on top, we had a great view of the sunset over Coron. We got busy with our cameras and start our photo ops. After trekking we went straight to Maquinit hot springs to relax our muscles. I just love Palawan!

A View of the Beauty of Palawan - Palawan Island
I've not been to Mt. Tapyas. I've been to Palawan on a very short tour so was unable to visit all the places around. However even that short visit was already fulfilling for I was able to visit some places like the Honday Bay, the Penal Colony, the Underground Rivers and few more. Now, it seems quite exciting to visit that Mt. Tapyas. Imagine 746 step trail! I wonder if I could ever trek down the trail without feeling totally exhaustive!

oh my!! i had to answer your post. I have been to Palawan, coron with my friends last year and wow! it sure is a great trip. part of our itinerary included climbing mount tapyas. the steps was simple, it was just like an ordinary steps but since it was 746 steps.. it was very tiring!! you better bring with you at least half a liter of water. haha you will be needing it when you first reached your first 40 steps.. and will be catching your breath if you are not used to walking and with exercises. we started going up around 3pm and i think it took us an hour to get to the top.. i remember it was almost sunset when we reached the top. haha But when you reach the top! WOW the view is sooo breath taking. its outstanding and you can see some small islands too, you can see the sleeping giant over there too... the air was soo fresh!! hay i would love to be there again too! i almost missed this experience because the mountain did not look so great from our view, it looked bare. hehe but wow.. its really the view up there that's worth all the muscle pain. =)

I haven't been to Coron and I certainly haven't been to Mt. Tapyas. But based on the description it seems that the ascent there is quite tiring. I've been to mountain treks before but that was a long time ago.

The trick to enjoying mountain climbing whether it's just a simple hill or a real high one is to be physically fit before attempting to scale one. I use to climb mountains when I was young and I prepare about 3 weeks before before an assault, that means no smoking and drinking, sleeping early, no night life , regular intake of vitamins, jogging every morning and watching my weight. People who climb will not enjoy scenery no matter how beautiful if they get short on breath. when they stop in the middle of the climb, they become a liability to their companions, also don't forget to travel light, bring only what is necessary for survival, I once made this mistake by bringing a lot of fancy and heavy gadgets that seems to be getting heavy when you are nearing the top and it made me want to throw everything away, good luck to you, enjoy and stay safe

I have been twice to Coron and i always climb up Mt Tapyas. No worries! its metropolitan friendly coz the steps are concrete with hand rails and you can rest in between and while enjoying the view as you go up. I suggest you go up on a late afternoon so that it would be so hot...then after that you proceed to Maquinit Hot Spring for a relaxing deep. c",)
