Do you ever know that you are dreaming?

I was once in a dream and realized that I was dreaming. I forced myself in vain to wake up. It is the first time I have been aware that I was in a dream. I have been in dreams that just didn't feel right but this one was different. Have you ever known that you were dreaming?

Honestly, this is a very difficult question to answer. I don't really know if I have ever realized that I was dreaming. It is hard to tell, as the brain perceive dreams as they were reality at that moment, but the funny thing is that I rarely remember what I have dreamed of.

If I wake up during the night, and get back to sleep after that, the next usually I don't even remember that I was awake. I guess this wouldn't get any result for me.

I was told once if you want to remember what you are dreaming set an alarm clock to go off in the middle of the night when nirmally you would be asleep. Apparently an outside stimulus helps us remember dreams..sometimes.

I used to know when I was dreaming. I could even wake myself up by opening my eyes very very widely..it was fun and amusing. I lost the ability somewhere in my twenties I think..

Yeah it was great while it lasted...I even remember some nightmares I could get out of merely by opening my eyes really wide. Then there were some I just told myself I am dreaming so whatever I was doing like overeating sweets was ok...

If im not mistaken it is called as a lucid dream, when we know that we are dreaming and we even know how to control our dream. I often have this kind of dreams. mostly when I have nightmare, I would force myself to open my eyes because I realize it is only a dream. I have encounter different kind of dreams, the dream when I know that Im in a dream world, dream where I can see my own self sleeping and I can see my bedroom, or dream that we called as vision because the dream is not just a dream but it has a meaning and quiet often it is talking about a future or a situation that will happen in the future. I get to used with these dreams and I can tell the different from each dream.

Yes, not that often, but if it happens I can remember my dream clearly. It happened once that I woke up in the middle of a nice dream. I really wanted to know how this dream would end. I turned on my pillow, fell asleep again and continued the dream, which had a happy ending. Although you must not ask me what that dream was as I forgot. After all, it wasn't really that impressive, don't you think.

I wish I knew the secret too. I once had a dream that I was flying and when I woke up I thought I really could fly. Then I realized it was all just a dream, I was very sad. I hope you find out how

Hi Joseph! Yeah, that happens to me once in a while. It's kinda scary sometimes because it feels like I am not able to wake up anymore or if I wake up, I would still be in a dream. Sometimes, when I'm sleeping and I badly want to wake up, I would dream that I am trying hard to open my eyes but I couldn't fully open them up. Then I would see my surroundings in half-opened eyes and everything would feel so heavy. I would want to move but my hands would feel heavy so I wouldn't be able to budge in my bed. Sometimes, it just gives me the creeps whenever this happens to me.

I once had a dream where I was also dreaming in it and I totally knew that I was dreaming in that dream in a dream and so I woke up, but sadly I was still in a dream and didn't really realize that until later when I woke up. Crazy, right?

I frequently have dreams where I know that I am dreaming and sometimes try to influence the dream sequence to be more to my liking. I, also, have had dreams that were so realistic that I had trouble deciding what was real and what was a dream.

All the time. It's called lucid dreaming, it's where you're aware that you're dreaming. I keep a regular dream journal that I've had since I was 12. Keeping that journal has helped me to really improve my dream recall so that I almost always remember my dreams and remembering dreams actually increases your likelyhood that you'll know when you're dreaming. I usually don't really do anything when I know I'm dreaming, I can't ever control dreams and I don't really ever want to wake up unless I'm having a nightmare. I just wind up going along with things I guess.

cool. I think that is pretty interesting to keep a dream journal. It sounds like a very smart thing to do since I have forgotten most of my dreams.

It reminds me a film called INCEPTION. This film talks about there are people who are confused and think the dreams are true (the life), and the life is a dream. I reccomend you that film. Myself, I have never realized that I´m in a dream. I can diference a dream from the life, but, in a dream, I don´t realized it. But, I think, it´s normal.

I actually had a few times but rarely. I remember someone telling me that in a dream, you can do anything. I had this one dream where I was at a family party then out of the blue I realized that I was suppose to be at home sleeping. It also felt like a dream and I thought hey, maybe I can do anything I wanted. I always wanted to fly in a dream so I tried to fly. I don't know how but somehow I forced myself to fly. It was fun actually! Another time I had a nightmare where I was locked inside a dark room and something else was in there with me. I knew it was a dream and I tried to pinch myself awake.

Did you wake up when you pinched yourself? I flew in my dream once also. It was amazing and when I woke up I thought for a minute that it was real and I could actually fly then I was so sad because it seemed real and I realized it wasn't.

I have learnt to identify when I'm dreaming, and i know I am. Sometimes I even weak up and realize it is a dream, but I am able to get asleep again and continue in the dream. It is a very desirable skill I think, and I feel so lucky for it because I know it is my world, and I can do whatever I want there.

When my dreams are so absurd that i know they couldn't possibly happen, that's when I know I am dreaming. A friend of mine told me that in his dreams, he could never ever get a telephone to work. That's how he knows he's dreaming. He also told me that in a dream he could never get an elevator to work properly either. The damn thing would usually go sideways. Now THAT is a definite way to tell if you're dreaming.

HaHa. I guess that would be strange. However for me, dreams always make sense while I am in them. When I wake up I realize how crazy and impossible it is for people to fly and to answer calls on a match stick

yes, i have had this happen to me on many occasions. the reason i knew i was dreaming was i knew the dream couldn't possibly be real. the situation just didn't add up. it happens when i'm in a deep sleep.

sages say you're experience is the closest description or analogy we can have to becoming enlightened in this life. The unenlightened have no other frame of reference to understand that state. Outside of that analogy, the experience of being enlightened cannot be grasped. Consider yourself lucky you experienced that and that I was here to share this perspective with you. You now have an idea of what it is to be enlightened or "awakened" being. Who knows, this might be the spark for you to eventually become enlightened.
