My webcam makes my face look like a Picasso

Do webcams normally do that? Because looking in the mirror, everything seems to line up right, but as soon as I turn on my laptop's built in camera, one eye looks like it's slipping off my face, and my chin has jumped a half inch to the right. What is going on?? Am I just one of those people who need to stay far far away from a camera, or should I take the plunge and buy the Logitech Pro9000 I've heard so much about?

You are so funny, that made me laugh. There is a little girl that has a play machine for kids and it takes pictures and I am impressed by the pictures it takes. The pictures are so clear and crisp without distortion in any kind of lighting. So what is up with the webcam's? Is it because they are cheaply made perhaps? The software I know can be adjusted but mine never did the job either. Maybe it is as simple as that newer cams are better, you think?

My computer is only 3 years old, which is old for a computer, but even old old old webcams looked awesome compare to what I got. I think it's because of it being an integrated camera. I heard someone mention in passing integrated vs ..not..integrated. Lol I can't remember the term.

The only thing I can think of besides trying different adjustments (webcam setup) reinstalling the software for the webcam is to create better room lighting for the camera. Maybe something could be wrong with the camera itself I guess ouch! I did a quick search for distorted image for fun and see there is a fad for... crazy distortion webcam ...on youTube - too funny!

You're probably right about the lighting. I should have played with that first, lol, before sounding completely dumb.

It's probably no real big deal. It's probably a resulation issue or camera setting. While I don't have a web cam (yet), I do know that sometimes if the resalition is off enough then the image will be distorted. And, the funny thing about it... the rest of the computer looks fine visually. Try playing with your settings in front of the camera. Open a video (not chat) and play with zoom and focus. Do the same in a chat, and ask the other person how they see you. If they get the same image, it's your camera, and how it's viewing and taking in your image. Something probably easily fixed. Try adjusting it and playing with it.

Thank you. I'll try that
