A Person Struggling to Protect a Right

If a person is accountable for something he worked hard for and it paid off then it is rightful for him to grab the chance of being compensated for something he had striven to attain, that's why one must protect this right he had obtained. But for some reason, he still need to put great efforts to prove that he is worthy of the right he really owned in the first place. Why should it be the case? Why should he need to please everybody and persuade them that it is his right and he must protect it? Don't they understand the real essence of being rightful for a right you've already owned?
