I really like reading books a lot. Why are they so addictive?

Everybody has a favorite. Some people like a mix of genres with action, drama, mystery or adventure. Others enjoy reading classical literature. Some of my favorites are Charles Dicken's Oliver Twist, Alice in Wonderland and Mark Twain's Huckleberry Fin. I also enjoyed a book called the Time Machine even though I can't remember what the author's name was. Science fiction is a very fun genre to read. So please share with everyone what is your favorite story book and/or novel and why? Thank you.

Because they make us travel in a way movies can't. We have to imagine things and it is such a good exercise that it make us feel good. Better than just watching somethign and having it all chewed up. I love reading, it is the best isn't?

Yes, indeed. Reading can take you places. Places you never thought were possible. Don't get me wrong, movies are a lot of fun to watch as well but sometimes it's even better to read the book and discover the adventure yourself because you have to use your imagination to get there!

Books are addictive cause they're books! I've been addicted to books forever! I'm always reading something. If I leave the house and I don't have a book then I feel LOST. And I have a genre bias, without a doubt! I'm addicted to high fantasy novels. I will read other books, but I would say about 90% of what I read is high fantasy or at least fantasy. I can't really name an absolute favorite book, but some of my favorites have been The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Legend of the Guardian-King series by Karen Hancock, and The Unicorn Chronicles by Bruce Coville.

I think you have a point. Reading is also a healthy habit which starts from an early age. The fantasy genre is also one of my favorites as well because you feel like you've stepped into this dream world full of adventure. It's great for all age groups. Thank you for sharing.

I really enjoy reading books, too, and have taken some time to think about why they are so addictive. I think that a lot of people really enjoy to read because it allows you to absolutely immerse yourself into the world of the characters that you're reading about. This is really good if you feel as though you need to wind down at the end of a hard day, because you can literally just forget about everything that might be worrying you and just read about someone else's life for a couple of hours instead of thinking about your own.

I go through fazes where I am avidly into something and then move away from it. Currently I am reading through a speical ops series with a heavy hit of romance. written by a female and geared toward females, but has enough action to keep me interested.

I like reading stories that has adventurous and thriller like scenes... harry potter series make the best adventure novels for me but in thriller, novels written by Robert Ludlum always keep me hooked on my phone. I don't buy novels but I read any novel or a story on wattpad.com or just download ebooks free.

I like reading books too but I prefer comics and mangas more hehe! Anyway if I had to read novels, I would choose the mystery or a romantic comedy. They are my favourite genres. I also like the ones that teach you of life and stuffs but horror, no I don't like them.

I've been a voracious reader since I was about four years old. I love many genres and even children's picture books, such as "Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. It's for all ages. I enjoy the humor of Patrick McManus, especially the Grasshopper Trap and the Skunk Ladder. We use to read these two aloud as a family so we could all enjoy them together. We did the same with the Little Britches series by Ralph Moody, which are autobiographical memoirs. And, of course, I cannot forget the Chronicles of Narnia, which I did not discover until I was an adult. These are children's stories for all ages. For pure escape, I read Nicholas Sparks, John Grisham, Earlene Fowler (because it's set where I live), and the Midnight Louie cat mysteries by Carole Nelson Douglas. I try not to read fiction too often because I am an addict when I start a book, and I need to finish it right away. I read other mystery authors, and occasionally other types of fiction. The last book I read was The Cookbook Collector by Alllegra Goodman. I chose it because it was about an antiquarian bookseller who collected cookbooks, but it's also about two sisters and their relationship and relationships, the IT industry, and even a bit about 9/11. It's probably more literary fiction than pure escape, but I enjoyed it. I didn't have to read it from cover to cover before putting it down. Most of the time I read nonfiction for information -- computer software manuals, cookbooks, and gardening books.
