Do you like joining parades?

Our town festival started the other day and today, there was a parade where our office joined together with other offices, establishments, schools, and all.
I like to join our town festival parade but today, I felt like I don't wanna join again next year because of some things. There were more than a hundred of groups who joined the parade and were at 101 so the parade has started and yet, we were still waiting there on our spot waiting for the line to move. The parade started at 6 but we were only able to walk at 8.
The sun was already too hot when we're walking down the highway and it was a national highway so vehicles were still allowed to pass so it wasn't only the hot sun but also the smoke pollution that we had to combat. One of us actually felt dizzy because of the hot sun. There were water stations but only at the assembly area but there were no plastic cups provided so we had to buy our own mineral water on bottle before we can refill it at the water stations.
It was the same last year, too but last year it was worst because the parade started at 10 instead of 6 and there were no water stations.
It was a good thing we had to ditch the parade because of some work matters so we didn't have to walk all the way to the highway until noon.

Your parade sounds like it was fun, despite the 'no water.' Definitely no fun on a hot day though! Yes, I usually enjoy being in parades. For many years I was asked to be in parades with my horse, and sometimes to carry the U.S. flag. The only time I found it unusual (and didn't like it) was the year my horse and I were supposed to ride in front of a 'sanitation float.' Well, the sanitation float turned out to be a huge garbage truck with noisy air brakes and an air-horn they liked to blow. My goodness, my horse was a nervous wreck and the crowd got a really good show of a high-spirited horse lol. She was 'strutting her stuff' and I was having a hard time keeping her from bolting! What made it worse was it was a bi-centennial celebration, and I was to be a native Indian riding bareback in costume...and I was 7 months pregnant lol. It was an exciting parade to say the least hahaha.

That sounded so amusing! But did it not hurt? Riding a horse while you're pregnant? Not to mention the horse was "strutting her stuff" like you said.

I rode horses since I was 5, so I know how to sit very tight and not get thrown around/or off. I had asked my Dr and he said to continue riding the same way I always did, just I wasn't allowed to break any new horses. (When you break a horse to accept a human on it's back, it's almost guaranteed to get thrown off at least once.) He had told me frisky ones were ok, but no bucking broncos lol. I continued to ride right up until the last month. Funny thing...the daughter that was born from that pregnancy is a large animal veterinarian (specializing in horses) and she has 5 horses. We often joke that she liked the rocking/riding motion since before she was born lol.

Wow! She's like a horse baby!
Breaking a horse.. that's a new trivia for me.
I love it when I learn new things here at myLot.
What is a bucking bronco? Is that a type of horse? I have never ridden a horse but I have always wanted to. Horses are not common here, they are only found here in slightly cold places. I was able to go to a place with horses but I was not able to ride a horse, I wasn't brave to try it.

I never joined any parades since from my childhood time. In fact, my parents never allowed me to join for fear i can't stand the heat from the weather. Until now, i never watch any parade directly. I only watched parades through television telecast.

I like joining parades when I was in my primary and secondary school. but if you will ask me if i will be joining the parade at present, I rather not because i cannot stand the sun. Although it is quite exciting to see what is in store in the parade, and i feel like young again, I cannot stand the sun and I do not like heat stroke. I rather join a parade during early morning or when the sun is setting to avoid the hotness of the sun. We do not have parade at work though, that is why I hardly join any parade lately.

Me, too. I would join a parade if it's held early in the morning or very late in the afternoon when the sun is not too hot. I am also afraid to get a heatstroke.

Yeah, the walking part is really terrible! And in this parade I was talking about, you don't only have to walk, there are kembot stations where you have to shake your bootie, too!

I used to join a fiesta parade in our town Angono, Rizal. It is called the Higantes Festival or The Giants Festival. It is such a fun parade where everyone is wet just like the San Juan Paligo Festival.

When I was a child, I belonged to a private band that marched in a lot of parades and played our music. I did that for about four years, and kind of got my fill of it back then. We hated being behind the horses.
I've never been a crowd person and tend to stay away from where the crowds are. I guess I'm more for small private events than fairs and festivals, though I have covered some local festivals I was interested in for the purpose of wrting Squidoo lenses.
Heat does me in. I simply can't stay in the heat for very long. But I'm almost 70 now. In my younger days, things were different. I was more festive back then. Now I hardly even celebrate holidays since the kids are gone. About all we celebrate anymore are Thanksgiving and Christmas with my brother's family.

Hi Barb! I used to belong in a school band and played the xylophone (but we call it lyre here). We joined in parades, too. I quit after a few months because carrying the xylophone was too much for me. It hurt my arms and I kinda got scared.
I used to join a lot of festivities, too when I was a teenager. But now that I'm working, I'm not much into town festivities anymore.
