My friend from childhood is very fond of the drink. I like a good night out like the next person but wouldnt drink like she does. In the past few years she has had drink every day.We used to go out about once every 3 months for a mad night out and keep in touch by phone other than that and were close. If ever she had a family crisis I was the first she would phone and Ive been there for her through thick and thin. I became very ill 3 yrs ago and she did call to visit me once(drunk) and kept in touch by phone but now that I am as recovered as Im going to get and cant drink she has kind of dropped me. She wasnt there for me at all through my illness and since. I know a drinker has only one friend but Im feeling very let down. Should I confront her? I know it will be a waste of time but im quite annoyed.

I know you'll feel better letting your feelings out however you could make things much worse between you, unless you are sure how she'll react. There are people who are like that if you do not drink you are not worthy of their friendship. I personally would not bother with confronting her at all. You could do something my MIL taught me write your feelings down on paper, every inch, maybe share with someone else and then rip that paper to shreds and try to let it go.
Maybe someday she'll come back to you wanting your friendship again or maybe not.
