can someone please explain how this works

ok so today was my boyfriend and my 9 months. i went out and bought him a 35 dollar (thats all the money i had)zippo lighter that was cammo and had his favortie football team on it. i gave it to him he loved it blah blah blah... then i was picking on him today and told him i wanted him to buy me pants because that was what i was supposed to do with my money and i no lie own 1 pair of pants and he started flipping out about how he needed money to put his truck on the road. and then after he DRAGED me to mcdolalds for lunch and spent 5 bucks on me his was flipping out about that. but it was whatever ya know... not that big of a deal this is what gets me... we got home and he started talking about how he has a surprize for me and getting my hopes up... then after making me wait forever he goes to his truck and hands me a set of keys to it... and told me it was my surprize... wth...??? he has been driving my car for months and we share a set of keys because we hardly go anywhere without each other... and its not like i can take his truck on my own anyway because i only have a permit. he seriously couldnt get me anything?!?!? and decided to just screw with my head then just grab something and hand it to me like he didnnt put any thought into it at all????? so anyway i got a bit pissed off and walked out of the room (after saying thank you nicely) and now he is pissed off at me??? i can spend all my money on him but he flips out about spending 5 dollars on lunch out of almost 300??? i seriously want to just start bawling or something stupid. i spent alot of time decideing on what to get him and thinking about what he likes and he hands me keys?? what should i do and what are your thoughts? ever had this happen to you?

Well, first I think he is worried about the bills and is under pressure there and second it's a guy thing I think he really thought you would be happy to get your own set of keys to his truck. sometimes it's hard for guys to know what to get a girl some guys are gift challenged give him time. :) that was sweet of you to get him a gift that he really likes.

Hi, us guys have a problem when it comes to spending money... every penny in a man's pocket counts and mostly budgeted onto something in his mind. I think you should not always expect him to return the favor, and if you force him to then you are the one to get hurt after all. What you need to do is to try to give him a chance and learn more of his likes at a given time, at what position he is financially, what is bothering him at the moment and those small things. You will come to notice he is not as selfish as he seems to be, just try not to buy hims things by now.

First of all you dont buy your boyfriend something every month it is your anniversary day. You only have one anniversary a day and that when you buy him something not each day its your anniversary day that is just kind of silly. I have never done this before at all and im 26 and with alot of ex boyfriends. I dont see the point in doing this because when you wait for your anniversary you will be more surprised to see what he would get you. Dont spend money on him if he isnt going to spend any on you, he seems to be upset with you but you didnt do anything at all. Next month if you are planning on getting him something please dont do it at all because you truly are wasting your time away on doing it.
