This is the outcome that has been predetermined by the Pentagon because no complaints or problems caused by this change of policy will be allowed. Any problems caused by this change of policy will most likely result in ending the career of anyone willing to voice the problem.. or even acknowledge it. If a gay service member becomes a problem, the problem will be swept under the rug.
How do I know? This is exactly what happened with women in the military, in combat rolls, and most other situations of social engineering in the military.
I don't want to see any problems arise from this, but if there are problems, I would like them to be addressed... but too many people don't want to hear of any problems, and the pentagon will simply kowtow to the pressure... no matter how many people get killed because of it.
So, no the sky isn't going to fall, dogs won't be sleeping with cats, and the military will keep rolling along... but the corruption will also fester and grow, undermining unit cohesion, esprit de corps, and a lot of good troops and officers will end up losing their careers.. while a lot of liars and cowards will get to keep theirs.
Here's to all the service men and women serve honorably and carry out their duties in a military manner. Since this policy has changed, then let's hope it actually does work, and I would love to be proven wrong here!

When I was going to Aviation "A" School in Tenn. The 3rd floor of our Barracks was for the women being discharged from the Navy. I had only been there for a few days when I found out what the were being discharged for. They were Gay. Their floor had an outside entrance that was locked at dusk. They could not leave until 0800 and if they missed curfew they went straight to the women's brig. They were not allowed to fraternize with the women on the lower floors at all. It was bizarre.
We had no curfew at all. We would see them looking out of their windows. It was very sad. They were escorted most places on base. They could leave the base without an escort, but on base they were watched like hawks. I guess because there were so many young girls around. It was stupid. They would not have done anything. They just wanted someone to talk to. We did talk to them offbase.

Yes, the ban has been based on a lot of stupid misconceptions and stereotypes of Gay people. Ones that lead to sad mistreatment. However, a lot of the reasons I've heard for lifting the ban are also based on misconceptions and stereotypes... and outright lies.
Most of the people I knew that were being discharged for cause were kept in some kind of confinement in their last days. It seems unfair, but it reduces the threat to the NCOs and Officers who were instrumental in the discharge.
There has to be some measures taken to reduce the threat of revenge.

Here is a story for you. I was in basic training, I guess about maybe 3rd week. I took my training at Ft.McClellan in Anniston,Alabama.
This was when we had a base for Women's Army Corp (WAC).
We had a grueling day. We were only getting 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night. And then our Sgt would roll us out and formation began.
But this one night we were waken to some wierd sounds. You guessed it. Two girls in our platoon decided to spend the night in their bunk together.
None of us said anything to them. I think there were a few snickers.
So after our classes the next day the rest of the platoon decided to get "EVEN" for our lack of sleep.
Even our platoon leader said GO DO IT.
So we hurridly ate our lunch, got back into our barracks and short-sheeted their bunks and put shaving cream in their low quarters.
Needless to say, THEY never said anything back to who did it, but the Platoon never heard them after that.
It was awesome. Should have seen em put on their dress greens and then try to put their low quarters on I think they both had to get new ones can't remember for sure, and this was back when Uncle Sammy only gave us 98.00 a month!
