Would you buy an affordable tablet as an ebook reader?

The couple of weeks I have been looking for an affordable ebook reader. I hate reading ebooks on my laptop since it gets hot and its not comfortable reading from my laptop while I am lying down in bed. I found some china tablets at a very affordable price but I am a bit hesitant with those since there aren't any warranties and the battery life is so short. I found a very nice alternative from MSI. It has a 10" screen and is sold at $300. The Battery life is around 5 hours. I was going to buy one last night but they ran out of stock and the sales lady told me to come back next week. After thinking hard about it, I am now having second thoughts on buying it. Is there really a need for me to buy a tablet? Do I really need it in order to read ebooks? Is it an unnecessary expense? What do you think?

Hello santhuqr. I was considering the kindle but the problem with the kindle is it uses e ink. Most of the ebooks I am reading are colored since it involves photography and architecture.

I use my iPhone as an ebook reader as well as other things. The trouble is that I have astigmatism and am slightly farsighted. So for me a table wold be just fine. I plan to save for an iPad and probably will get an iPad 3 or 4 because that is how long it will take me to save for it. I wold think that if you use it for multiple purposes, rather then just for an ebook, it would be all right. Also you have to be able to read it in bright sunlight.

Mh friend and I went to Birds Hill which is our main provincial park near Winnipeg, and we were sitting near the lake. I was trying to read a book on my iPhone and found I had to go to the trees so I cold at least see the words. I am hoping that the next iPhone or the new iPad would make it easier to read without looking for some shade. I am good at saving but it will take a while.

I tried reading an ebook using my cellphone and I ended up not finishing the book since I got frustrated browsing through the large pages. I will probably by an Android tablet since I am already used to the android interface and it is considerably cheaper than the ipad.hehehe I would purchase an ipad if only I had the patience to save for it.hehehe

You can enjoy reading ebooks in your phone if you convert it with the right extension. Make sure to convert your electronic book to epub file. If you do, it will be like a book, you will just flip every pages. No need to browse through large pages.

Well, if you want an ebook reader, I think that a tablet is better than an actual ebook reader. I've been wanting an Amazon Kindle for sometime now, but when I saw one in the mall, I found out that it costs about 17000 pesos. So I decided that it's not worth it, add a little more and I can buy an iPad which has more functions. If you're really set on an ebook reader then I say it's better to buy a tablet, even if it is China-made.

at 300 dollars, you can buy an ebook reader already. You can order online. I bought a china apad to make it my ebook reader, it's great yeah, but it's still better to use ebook readers that use e-ink technology (meaning it's like your reading from paper). It's better for our eyes.

I was planning to get the kindle or the nook but what caught my attention with the MSI Windpad Enjoy 10 was the 10" colored screen. Android OS and the ability to install and browse the net and watch movies. Are you still using your Apad for reading ebooks?

Not anymore. It broke down. It wouldn't boot up, and being the curious person that I am, I grabbed the screwdriver and opened it up. Now there's no display on the screen as well! HAHA! I installed an ebook reader on my phone but I haven't had the time to try it out yet. I'm planning on buying an ebook reader with e-ink technology. Even though I'm a utilitarian and would love to have a multi-purpose gadget, I'd still want to protect my eyes, so I'm saving up for an ebook reader :)

I have seen a cheap e-ink ebook reader for $82.99 It has pretty good storage capacity, 4Gb which can be used to store many thousands of ebooks. Anyway, here is the link: http://crvc11.ecrater.com/p/10350978/7-color-ebook-reader-4g-with-e-album

I would definitely prefer a tablet to an ebook reader. I have always thought of specific readers as "one trick ponies", that is they can do one thing well, and not much else. Some have a basic browser to access the web, but a tablet offers much more. If only for the ability to read and research at the same time, I would judge the tablet superior, IMHO.

I have never thought of buying an ebook reader since I have an iPhone and an iPad. I use those two gadgets to read electronic books. E-book reader is quite expensive so I chose to just buy an iPhone because I can do everything with it. I can read a book, watch movies, play games, and all.

Yes, I would. It will be more convenient to read and I like reading books. I also find it unpleasant to read ebooks on my PC for it gets tried when I kept reading for a long time... But, I prefer Eink ebook reader, like Kindle, to tablet. Because it would not hurt the eye, and since you can hardly do anything else on it but reading magazines or books, you would save a lot of time on reading. However, some people like tablet more.
