Lesson to all of us as Filipinos in dealing with rumors or any kind of hoax

I was supposed to write this last time but due to my busy in job applications I wasn’t able to post my own topic.
There was an allegation regarding Oprah’s statement via NBC News: “I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.”
I've actually read this in some forums stating on how she gave compliment to our representative Shamcey, to the extent that this statement has spread into social networking sites. But since someone made clarification to verify if Oprah’s statement was true it was confirmed that Oprah didn’t say such thing as the rumors are just circulating the internet.
I observed that there are other people who can’t accept Shamcey’s achievement and they are just being carried away without analyzing the statement. I have to admit that I am about to believe of what Oprah have given statement was true, though afterwards I really reviewed her statement well and I realized something. First of all why would Oprah compare Shamcey to any other candidates? Yes she can still expressed her appreciation towards our representative but not to the extent that she is going to compare it with other candidates or else that is gonna be a big trouble on her part as a public figure. If her statement is true then I am sure other people from other country will hate Oprah by now. She is influential and an inspiration as an advise giver and a host so how come that she will be having her favoritism that she needs to publicize it? Another thing so what if Shamcey has no interpreter that she has no seconds to rethink her answer? Is that the overall basis to win the pageant especially in Q and A? That is not the basis of intelligence it is just a big advantage for her that she was able to speak English straight and fluent. Or else this pageant must be Ms. Best in English Fluency beauty pageant. Another thing that I’ve noticed here though you can still correct me if I am wrong, isn’t that the term “reservation” shouldn’t be the accurate term it should be “observations”? Like “I have observations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion”
There are other people who have re-posted this kind of statement as I believe we shouldn't be over-whelmed and we must be sensitive to other people from other countries. What if it happens that Ms. Angola is our fellowman then we are going to hear such things from the most influential host of America? That is gonna be very disappointing to hear right?
Still remember the radiation text message that was allegedly issued by BBC News? About the “radiation may hit Philippines at around 4 pm” To the extent that some schools were decided to suspend their classes and many people are worrying because they might get in trouble? I remember my Mom even called me and asked me to open our TV to listen to the news to the point that I wasn’t able to hear anything.
Now before we react on such things it is time for us to analyze the statements and other rumors. We have to make sure that we must find the reliable sources or always ask. Just think if some people are capable of saying such things, analyze it if that is constructive or destructive criticism.
If that is related to any disasters then it is time for us to call the authorities to verify if the statement is true.
It is better to be safe than sorry or else we might get in trouble. Always remember that.

That is another shame to us Filipinos if that happens. I mean if they are going to attempt on how to ruin our fellowman that is an achiever.

What matters is that shamcey won. Whether it's the first place or 5th place don't matter since there's no way the judges will change their decisions. The fact is there's just no way to please everyone. Having post analysis won't help either because of the reasons I provided above. Let's just all be happy and proud that once again we proved to the world that our women are among the most beautiful and intelligent people in this world. Shamcey has achieved more than Venus did and they already brought honor to their country. Let's not ruin their triumphs by being sour grapes.

I know your point but the main topic here is about dealing with rumors and hoax as general, not just focusing on Shamcey's achievement. Because there are times that it will ruin the situation just like what happened before about radiation text. Sometimes we have to ignore it depending on what kind of statement but there are times that we need to take it seriously or make an action because we can't control other people if they are going to believe it or not. And in a sense that other people wouldn't damage their reputation just like what they did to Oprah.

They like to spread rumors aren't they? I knew there was something fishy about it. I remember about that wedding of Prince William and kate. some members of video city who were busy relaxing in our house made a rumor about them getting married int eh Philippines. If Filipinos are not interested in rumors in general, such won't spread

That is funny, Prince William and Kate will be having royal wedding in our country? I am going to believe a bit if they want to spend honeymoon here. I have a maid actually who is fond of rumors as well that is why I didn't also believe that Prince William has a Pinay Nanny which indeed I've already realized it was true.
I also believe that it won't spread if they are not going to rely on just initial reaction and if they will analyze the statement very well. @kareemadivina (1230)

I agree...I've seen a lot of post about Oprah's statement, and even people I know just believe it.Of course,we really want our own candidate to win but I think we really need to rationalize.Maybe Oprah appreciates Miss Supsup; but for her to issue a statement like that is doubtful. As a high profile who have strong support for Africans, building schools for african girls, and an African American herself, she must be very proud that Miss Angola wins the pageant.

I have seen other statement as well about Shamcey's deserve the title compare to Angola. I can't blame other people from another country on how they complain about Filipinos to the extent that they even thought that we are sour graping with the results. That is gonna be shame for us if a lot of Filipinos are still complaining of what Shamcey's had achieved.
