Foreign Aid - Should America Stop Giving

Recently read an article where the US House of Representatives voted down a bill that would have funded the Federal government through the end of September 2011. It failed because some House Republicans defected from their own party because the bill did not go far enough as in spending cuts. One idea to save money for the US taxpayer is to not just reduce but cut out foreign aid altogether. There are those that say foreign aid is good for the country since its helps create allies. Other say that it is just a type of political bribe the government pays to have a presence in that country. I wonder why the Philippines kicked the Americans out of Subic Bay? Any way, any thoughts on if foreign aid should be an item on the chopping block? How much of it, if any? Should the US stop giving to certain countries like Pakistan or Israel?

I do think we need to fix our financial problems before we go and give other countries aid. It would be a lot better for this country if we weren't broke as a government.

Thought I am not an American, I certainly agree that they should stop these foreign aids. They've got enough problems there is their own country financially, they should help first their own. Countries, such as the Philippines (i'm Filipino, BTW) should also stop relying on such aids, instead should strive hard not to rely any at all. Anyway, with all the foreign aid the US had been giving, they still got 9/11-ed.

I have had mixed feelings over the years on foreign aid. I do believe that certain countries shouldn't receive it from us period. I believe that you need to be in a position to help others, I know longer believe that America is in that position. America has a high unemployment rate, homeless issue and many other internal problems. We can not afford to take care of the rest of the world, until we fix the problems from with in. Here's the scenario. An individual household is going in the red every month can't keep up on the bills so they have to look at things to cut. The first things to go would be the frivolous stuff, such as entertainment, vacations. Maybe working on conserving more with electric, heat and water. Making fewer trips around town, combining going to the grocery store with a trip to the DR. So after doing these things their still having problems. So they review some more. We give money to these charities, we will have to cut them out. Now they are balanced. They are no longer living beyond their means. It's simple math to me. You can't run up debt and give money/aid away. You can't put yourself or the country in debt to help someone else out. You will end up bankrupt. This of course is my 2 cents worth!!! side note. saw this discussion had 0 responses so thought I'd try to revive it. I usually stay out of politics, lol. To much bashing going on over here.
