Are you brand conscious with your camera gear?

I have been into photography for a couple of years now and every time I my friends ask me what camera I am using they usually ask me why I did not pick a nikon or canon dslr. I have been shooting photos using an Olympus DSLR for the past three years now and I have really been accustomed to my camera. I have tried using other brands and I haven't seen the need to switch to another brand. I really don't understand why some people will try to convince me to switch to another brand when I am perfectly happy with my camera system. Are you brand conscious with acquiring your camera gear? Do you pick a camera system because of the brand or because of how the system feels to you?

I researched what I would be using my camera for and based my decision on that. What I cam up with was the Canon system was best for me. Because of accessories and batteries may be interchangeable I have stayed with the cannon brand. For example my Canon Rebel and Canon G9 both use the same batteries so I can always have a couple of spare batteries when I use either camera. The lens for my Rebel work with my Canon D50 and they will fit as I upgrade in the future. When I went on a mission trip I was able to take my Canon Rebel with the Kit Lens I received with my Canon D50.

My second choice was Canon but after looking at the prices of the lenses here in my place I was a bit hesitant. The main reason why I opted for Olympus was the in body image stabilizer. The image stabilizer allowed for cheaper lenses compared to those lenses with IS. Before investing in a system I already knew what lenses I wanted and what price I was willing to spend. Price was also a major consideration in my choice. Canon is a great system since I have also tried using my dads Canon DSLR.

I inherited a Canon from my husband. His youngest brother who is an amateur photographer also had a Canon, so that is the brand I will stick with. For a time my husband used a JVC but found it was difficult to get parts for. So I figured to stick with a brand that was dependable. I want to get a better camera, as this one only has 5.0 but right now there are other things to get first.

I have a Sony DSLR, and I think it's wonderful. it's not about the brand. I get on well with my camera, the pictures are excellent, I can adjust it easily and it has some great features. I basically told the people in the shop I wanted the best possible camera for the least possible money. I wanted value for money. there were more expensive Canon ones I was looking at, but it's about getting the best bang for your buck, so to speak. the name isn't important really. Canon and Nikon seem to have a lot more lenses, but I'm very rarely going to be able to afford a new lense. if I can get a Macro and a good zoom lens, that will probably be all I need or can afford ever. so a wide range of lenses isn't top priority. as long as you are happy with the camera, and feel it is worth the price you paid, and the make is at least reliable, then that's all that matters.

I don't have a DSLR, but I use a Sony Cybershot. I sometimes want to buy a DSLR but for me, my Cybershot has always satisfied my photography needs. My main purpose is to take pictures and to capture memories, so I'm okay with it. Plus, it's really handy so I don't worry about it being to heavy or whatever. But when I see my friends' DSLRs and the picture quality that they have, it makes me want to buy one. But if I ever do, I'd probably buy a Nikon or a Cannon. I do want an Olympus Tough though.
