People voted for an inexperienced, unheard of idiot for president and he won so I guess it doesn't really matter their religion...... at least a Mormon stands for something.

While in some ways I have to agree with you, race, religion, gender, etc really shouldn't matter in a political election. What should matter is what the candidate stands for, and whether or not they are capable of doing something worthwhile for our nation, especially considering our current economic state.

Mormon or not mormon is immaterial, as long as the candidate is able to convince me that he can become the best president of U.S who has strong character, fair minded, intelligent, a problem solver, a natural leader and possess high moral value to lead the country. Good man come from all religions background, not just one religion only, i am totally comfortable with giving my vote to a mormon if he possess the above qualities.

You hit the nail on the head there. Since when does religion, race or any other factor matter more than what the candidate can bring to our nation? I just don't get it! I wish more people thought like you do, if they did we might not be in the shape we are today!

Hello Fatcat and welcome to myLot. Back in the sixties it was often said that a Catholic would never become president either. It was feared that the pope would rule the United States though him. Kennedy wone big time. and was a good president for the time he was in office. So you can see that religion has nothing to do with the job. I agree with lampar as long as he can do the job better than anyone else he will have my vote. Some people are closed minded.

I have to answer your question with a question...what part does religion play in politics?? Honestly if the candidate is one that you believe will lead our nation where it needs to go then religion, gender, race, etc should play no part in the voting process.

If a Mormon ever runs for office advocating policies I find acceptable, I'll be happy to vote for them.

If I thought either of the two Mormons were the best candidate, I would vote for him. But at this point, I don't. I support a black man, but not the incumbent. Every debate seems to change the candidate I prefer. So after the next debate I may change my mind again. I can tell you this much though. If either of the two Mormons gets the Republican nomination, I will vote for him against the incumbant.

I remember when President Kennedy was running the same question was asked - Could you ever vote for a Catholic, I mean the Pope would be running the country. It is not the religion of the person but what the person stands for and how he/she could govern.

I am Mormon and won't be voting for either LDS presidential candidate in the primaries.
