The Durga Puja and our childhood.

The Durga Puja festival is drawing nearer. When we were children, we used to visit the work place of the artist and watched the progress in making of the image of the goddess Durga with her whole family and the other accompaniments. Each day, we used to count days for that auspicious day by the progress we watched in the making and ultimately when it came we were so much excited that those few days passed as if in the twinkle of the eye. After it was over, we were morose for a few days and then again started counting days for the next year. What's about you?

I have been to India twice, and had the opportunity to visit religious places. Yes, I was also told about the Durga Puja, a religious festival. I hope I can visit India again during the Durga Puja festival time.

India is country of festivals. Durga Puja is festival which is celebrated in Bengal. In North India we also celebrate Durga Puja festival but in different way. Here it is called Navratra. It begin from 28th September. Here worship of Goddess Durga and fasts are important.

In my part of our country it is the festival of Deepavali, rather than Navratri that is celebrated more vigorously and enthusiasm.Durga Puja is celebrated more by the Bengali community and the 10 day Navratri festival by the Gujaratis. However Navratri has become universal mainly because of the Disco Dandiy and everybody pitches in to dance. It has become more commercial with the religious aspect g oing into the background.I remember Deepavali,in my younger days, 40 to 50 years back was really wonderful and without thecommercialization of the present times. Sadly nowadays there is hardly any enthusiasm like before and it is mainly due to the rising cost of living and inflation. Once upon a time i used to look forward to it but now it makes me sad and depressed because i am now all alone with none of my famly members to celebrate with.I am truly fed up of life and want to leave this world as quickly as possible.
