It is legal in most states for a doctor who is NOT a board certified plastic surgeon to perform plastic surgery! That means a doctor somewhere, to supplement his income, took a course on implants or something and started doing implant surgeries! OMG. If you are going to have plastic surgery done, which is expensive, at least make sure your doctor of choice is actually certified to do the procedure! You risk surgical mistakes that can not be undone as well as your life. Use some sense! This woman paid the price. She got an unasked-for eyelid tuck which left her unable to close her eyes completely and a breast procedure where the doctor cut a muscle that should never have been cut and her breasts now are sewed together in the middle creating a "uniboob". Good grief! http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Wellness/buyer-beware-uncertified-doc-botches-surgery-woman-uniboob/story?id=14582843

The video says that there are no national guidelines that say anyone has to be board certified.

That's why caveat emptor is so important! Whatever you are buying, you need to pay attention and do your research. You get what you pay for. You have to be careful.

This is good to see. LOL He should take responsibility for his actions because other people's lives are on his hands.

Thanks be given that in my country they take the licence away from the so called doctor and he cannot be a doctor in any speciality if he is caught. If the misshap is too great, he can even go to jail. There are medical probelms that arise in surgeries and other medical procedures, but the doctor in charge must have the certified speciality. Sometimes I wonder about what is called developped places and what is called underdevelopped

Here in the US a great deal of hospitals do require all surgical doctors to be board certified and credentialed in their field in order to be able to perform such surgeries in the hospital. I worked at a hospital as a Medical Staff credentialer. I am sure some surgeons do risk not being certified and or credentialed and probably do such in their own private facilities. However, if careless I am sure it would not last very long as gosh we are talking about the potential to endanger lives. Personally it is our health and bodies that are at stake when doing such type of cosmetic surgeries, therefore, it is our responsibility to make sure such doctors are credentialed properly, and or to assure they are experienced enough, prior to allowing them to cut into us. Even for the necessary ones too.
