Did Dan Brown's The DaVinci Code changed your beliefs about God?

The Davinci Code is one of my favorite books. And Dan Brown is my favorite writer.
The book was such an eyeopener for all of us. It makes us realized the truth, the greatest cover up in human history, they say. But I'm not saying that I am an atheist now. I still believe in God.
What so great about this book and the way Brown has written it, he did not condemn the church nor defended it. It was full of trivia, which I really really love about a book.
what about you? Did the book affected you religious beliefs? Did you feel any hatred or relief after reading the book? And why don't you share it. :)

I've never read it and I don't plan to, but I'm very disturbed that you seem to think that the book was supposed to be an "eye-opener" and portray "truth". There's very little historical truth in Da Vinci Code, despite whatever claims Dan Brown has made. My proudly atheistic Art History teacher said it best when she had to dismantle misconceptions about Da Vinci and his work, "He made up a bunch of junk, made millions of dollars, and made my life throughly miserable."
There are loads of books detailing the problems with Da Vinci Code's "history" but you can get the gist of it from this wiki page:

I'm sorry if I made an assumption, but your first post seemed very "I think this book is completely true and it unveiled a big cover-up!". Dan Brown is a writer of fiction and according to his critics about ALL his work (not just Da Vinci Code) he doesn't do a whole lot of research to align his fiction with historical or scientific fact. Which isn't a bad thing, he is after all a writer and not a historian or a scientist, but it is bad when people look at his work and think it's the truth. "Facts" presented in fiction should always be taken with a grain of salt.
Sure, you can be "open-minded" towards accepting the conspiracy theory if you really wanted to. But I wouldn't use Dan Brown's book as the excuse, lest you promote the idea that he's a true historian which in turn creates more ignorance.
And I won't bother to read it because... well I just won't bother to read it. It's not my type of book to begin with, and I have a bit of an aversion to popular books. The more I hear about a book the less I want to read it.
One of my strange reading quirks. Not to say that I never read bestsellers, just that they tend to hit the bottom of my list.

Its fine, happens a lot. I guess I just didn't clear up what I really wanted to say.
And yeah, Dan brown has this power to make his readers believe that his writings are actually "facts" that's why the church banned the book.
I like reading famous books, haha. the more positive reviews I hear, the more I want to read it. I guess I just don't want to waste my time reading a never-heard book, sometimes, to save my time if it happens to be a bad one and save myself from disappointment. xD

I know the book was a fiction and there were a lot of criticisms telling us it was nothing but lies. It's not that I believe everything that he said in the book. What I was saying was, what we use to believe could either be lies or truth too. I guess I'm just so open minded when it comes to issues like this.
And it's totally fine if you won't bother to read it, we're different.

not at all because Jesus is a prophet and church leader in my religion, not god. This movie didn't test my faith at all, I just enjoyed watching it. that movie is fiction.
I'm still going to church and pray at night. if you want test your faith in god, you should watch Zeitgeist , that documentary is the ultimate test of faith. that shows dirty secrets of religion
another one to test your faith is the documentary The Annunaki - Genetic Scientists of the Sumerians.
those 2 documentary are in youtube.

It didn't, because my religious views were already shaken a very long time ago when I was still in studying, even way before Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code came out.
I was baptized a Roman Catholic and saw something quite odd with the way Roman Catholicism preached and spoke about God. It's just my soul personality I guess.
I liked reading the book but it lacked research.

A gripping yarn and an enjoyable read. Changed my beliefs? Well why should any novel do that? It is fiction.
It is almost as daft as people wanting to ban Harry Potter and the Dark Materials trilogy!

The book is a hodge podge of Christian Conspiracy theories and a dash of Gnostic fantasy, and in my opinion was nearly as much garbage as the film was. I was a student of Comparative Religion at the time I read it, and was very familiar with the theories he patched together so badly. But whether or not you like the book/film, it is pure fiction and shouldn't really affect anyone's idea of God. Certainly not mine lol, I don't believe in God.

Yeah, it shouldn't. Those who lack faith in God and those who doesn't know what is the real truth must be really blown away after reading the book, like I did when I first read it. haha. But I didn't fail to check if he state facts or not.
.. I have a professor once who,too, doesn't believe in God.. just saying.lol

Dan Brown is one of my favorite authors because he puts together a nice storyline and it has nothing to do with being fact or fiction. Some of the stuff on there is fact but obviously most is fiction because after all you can't make a book based purely on facts not cut and dry. I mean have you ever read a biology book and felt excited to read it without being told to AND you weren't a science major?
I will still believe in God no matter what I read because of personal experiences. The DaVinci Code is a great read with many storylines but that's all it is.
