Meng Xi Bi Tan(The Writings Beside the Meng Creek) written by Shen Kuo of the Northern Song Dynasty(960-1127) is the only book in Chinese history which gives us detailed description on Bi Sheng's invention of movable type printing. Thereafter, a great many works of various dynasties made contributions to the explanation of movable type printing. However, they were not as good as Shen's book, for they couldn't provide new information. No detailed records about Bi Sheng's native place and birth and death dates were found, so the descendants had nothing but conjecture about that. It was in 1990 when tombs of Bi Sheng and his descendants were found in Yingshan, Hubei province that historical materials were complete and the gap was filled in China's history of science and technology during the past thousand years.This major archeological discovery was regarded as another achievement after Shen Kuo's Meng Xi Bi Tan, recording Bi Sheng's movable type printing.
