Does your work stops on a power blackout?

There was a power blackout this afternoon at work and since my work involves the use of computer, work practically stopped for the whole afternoon. I was just thankful that it wasn't summer and the weather was not hot (but not cold either) because if it was, I would have stayed outside the office for the rest of the afternoon! Even if we have a power generator, it wouldn't be able to support all the air conditioning units and all the computer units at the office. This always happen during a storm that leads to a power blackout. Work stops and employees just standby and wait for the power to return. Does this happen at your office?

Power blackouts don't affect my line of work. But of course, it's difficult if there's no light nor air conditioning. But since our company has a good generator, it's still work as usual, though things are still quite slow since elevators don't function well. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

I wouldn't think of riding an elevator when there's a power blackout! Even if there's a generator.

True enough, it's like you're asking for trouble if you take elevators during power outages. hehehehe..

YEah, it happen once, but not just our office, but the entire building.. lol :D It happened 3 times in the span of an hour, and same like u, work was suspended as we are depending heavily on the usage of computer.. haha Everything was rejoicing when that happens but when the power is finally back for good, somehow the internet connection was affected and it's much much slower!! haha From there, all happiness turned into frustration.. haha

I guess it's better not to have any power at all.

Yes, it happens to me many times when i was working. And whenever it happens, i am so happy and cheering that I hope the power will not resume. . There is always a sign when the power will be cut in our office before, it signal by blinking the lights so all we do is saved all our spreadsheets and stand by for lost of power and it happen. Since our office have no windows, we do not have lights everywhere, we have emergency lights but it only work in the stairs area. What we do is to use our cellphones for light source so that we can get out of the office safely and gleefully.

Once in a great while. Usually in the winter if there is ice on the power lines. A few years back we had an ice storm and were without working for four days. I kept warm and full as I also have gas in my house so I could cook and keep one room warm!

I remember the days when we couldn't go to work due to flood. But it was only a few days. After that, we went back to work still with the flood and power blackout and all we did in the office was clean all the debris and mud.

I am working on an island here in Indonesia where the power comes from diesel generator. There is almost blackout each day without warning, so when the power blackedout, we have to substitute the power with our own generator. Even, the generator can not support the needs of electricity in the company so we do shift to places which are not light on. I am annoyed with power blackout and have to be outside because it is very hot here.

That is a very inconvenient place! I would not like to work in a place with a limited supply of electricity. It seems frustrating enough if you can't maximize your equipment, appliances and gadgets because of the limited electricity.

It did! Our office do get support from generators but not all plugs/outlets are provided. Those with laptops can continue working but those who are relying on desktops have to stop working :P

And eventually those working with laptops will have to stop or else their batteries will be drained out.

It really is! I just love it when there's no option but to stop working during blackouts.

Mine doesn't. It's BAU (Business as usual) everytime, all the time. But during the storm Pedring yesterday, at least they show a humane side by letting my office mates go home early (I didn't go to work because of the storm).
