Ive heard of a tear holder necklace before but I didnt know what it was called. I am almost at the end of the book I am reading called "Divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood" and the daughter gives her mother a lachrymatory. To me the thought of wearing a lachrymatory is gross. I wouldnt want to carry around someone elses tears. I guess this stuff goes back to the victorian ages. Have you ever owned one? Would you want to own one why or why not?

I don't think I'd mind having one. I have never heard of one so I had to look it up. Even if not used for it's intended purpose still a neat idea behind it and very ornate bottles as well. Now what was a bit gross was when Angelina Jolie and that one guy wore necklaces with vials of each others blood that is GROSS!

Wow I totally forgot about that for their wedding instead of wearing wedding rings or something they wore vials of each others blood. That is really gross I agree. That was when she was married to billy bob thorton before she got with brad pitt. She seemed more destined with billy bob thorton as they were both really unusual. The only thing I see going in favor with angelina jolie and brad pitt is that they are both super rich and considered one of the most beautiful couples in the world. Aside from that I dont see them fitting.

Hi ya shaggin Ermm, nah I don't think so. I understand what some say about holding their childs tears close to them if something had happened to them but then I would find it more acceptable to carry a lock of hair and anyways wouldn't the tears evaporate and you would be left with a water stain?

Since I never saw that movie or read the book, that is a new one on me! I have never heard of that! It does sound a little gross.

In most cases this would not be something that I would want to wear. However, I can also think of situations where it would be something that I would wear. For example, if something were to happen to my children, I would wear one that held my children's tears because in that way I would always be able to have them close to me even when they are gone. I would also wear one if it was a relic of a saint because having a relic of a saint is good luck.

I didnt know that about having a relic of a saint being good luck. Thats interesting. I'm guessing you are catholic? I dont think even if it was my kids tears I would want to collect them in a lachrymatory. I just find the whole thing kind of gross. I have a friend whose fathers ashes from his creamation are in a necklace and she wears it. I think its really sweet but I dont know if I would want to do that either.

I watched a drama in Korea about this kind of necklace. It was a fiction about a girl who was in comma with no hope of recovery. Her 'half' soul needs to collect tears from three people who really love her. She has this special necklace to hold the tears. It was not easy task because even your dear friends would not genuinely cry for you with love. Some would cry because of envy, because of sympathy, because of their own mortality, etc. So, this necklace is called lachrymatory? I don't think I would want to carry such necklace...

In the book The Divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood the daughter bought it for her mother in an antique store. If you really want to buy something like that first I'd say to check out ebay and see if they have anything if not maybe you could call around to the local antique dealers in the area. They may have one if not maybe they could tell you where you could find one.
