A court of Saudi Arabia gave a verdict that a woman will get ten lashes for driving a car in the street. In Saudi Arabia driving car is prohibited for women.
Last Monday a court of Jidda gave this verdict. The woman named Shema Jastaniah arrested last July for violating law. Shema already challenged the verdict. But God knows what will be the fate of that woman.
Like Saudi Arabia in many countries women are oppressed by various ways.

And, at the same time this woman was being sentenced for simply driving a vehicle this same country gave women the right to vote and hold public office. What a contrast.
They can now vote - IF they can get to the polls without driving.
They can run for public office - IF they can get out to campaign.
They can hold public office - IF they can get to their government offices without driving.

Actually, they still consider them "property" and giving them the right to vote without other basic rights is designed to give married men more votes than single men.
Saudi women are legally prevented from leaving their home or working without the permission of their male "guardian" - who can be a father, brother, husband or son or even a relative of a husband's, if no one else is available.
Since they cannot legally leave their home to vote without permission, if they refuse to vote the way their "guardian" dictates, their "guardian" can refuse to allow them to leave the home on election day. "Unescorted" women are frequently detained by both civil and religious police until a "guardian" can be contacted -so sneaking out is not really an option unless they can convince another male to "escort" them. And, if they are caught sneaking out, either their "guardian" can punish them or he can turn them over to the courts for punishment.

I think every woman in Saudi Arabia should get behind the wheel and drive at once, and run over anyone who tries to oppress her. The Muttaween can't lash them all!!!

Hi all my friends,
At last the woman has been exempted from the punishment. The Saudi king overruled the court's verdict. The woman will not be lashed for driving car in the street.
But the newspaper report did not mention whether ban on women to drive car have
lifted or not.
