Do you haggle when shopping to malls?

I've watched an American shopper haggling in a mall even though the products are already on sale, and she was given an additional discount. Have you tried doing it? Usually, it seems a little odd and embarrassing if you do it in a major mall. But if anyone have tried it, can you give us some pointers on how to haggle.

this is typically not done here in Canada unless there is something wrong with the item, then i will haggle with the store people.

That's actually a good excuse to haggle. But how can we do that if the item is already on sale? :) If we haggle, the sales person may say, that's why it's on sale because there is a defect. But anyway, thanks for your insight on this matter.

I never had success in haggling in shoppings malls. The salesladies just ignore me when I try those stunts. I'm imagine they're thinking at the back of their mind -- "WTF is wrong with this guy? This is a shopping mall. If he wants to haggle, he should go to Divisoria or Quiapo. friggin' BUM!"

That's the common notion here in our country. But I think there are still people who can do this and appear classy, in my opinion. Hopefully, it will be the norm in the near future because prices are getting higher and higher everyday.

Hi stuckonu! I do not haggle in mall. Can we even haggle in a mall? I thought haggling was only widely done in public markets and small stores and not in malls. This reminds me of my last haggling. lol I haggled for the price of the tarpaulin I had printed in a shop. The original price was a hundred twenty or something. And it was already discounted because my office is a patron of that shop. But seeing that the price is almost close to a hundred, I asked if they could just give it to me for a hundred. And they did.

Im in USA. Most of the stores in the malls are owned by big companies. Prices are set and there is no way to haggle. If you want to haggle a price you must go to a small privately owned store.

No I wouldn't really do that because all the prices are fixed and usually the sales assistants need to get permission from their managers so it's very unlikely they would allow a discount. But whenever I'm in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia we do it because they bump the price up because they know you're from the UK and by the time you've haggled them you're at the price that the items are getting sold at to people who live their anyway.

I lives in India and i found most mall companies has set their price rate on their product. So, there is no way of haggle. I do shopping at malls somethime. but nowadays i most prefer to do shopping online and for that i use to visit at arrant online shopping store to order my product at cheap price with heavy discount. Yet yesterday i visit at http://indiaemporium.com to buy some latest designer clothing dress, where their is no way of haggle, as the product price set at each Each ethnic wear dress with discount. And that's why i do online shopping most.

I don't like to bargain and prefer to shop where they have fixed rates. If I like something I straight away buy. I don't even look at the price tag sometimes.

It's best to haggle when there are other stores besides that one where they also sell the same items at a lower price. That way, when you try to haggle with the salesperson from the previous store, they will give you a discount as opposed to losing a customer to their competitors. I have tried it at a mall here in our country where they do entertain hagglers.

Oh yes! I am very familiar in this because my Dad does this. He loves to bargain even when the item was already on sale. When I'm with him, I feel really embarrassed and I just walk away from him and pretend I don't know him. But that's at the markets so that's alright but asking for a bargain in an actual shopping mall is really embarrassing. I would never do that as I would feel too shameful. But if you're bold and got the guts for it then go for it, I just don't like the idea of the shop keeper staring at you and thinking you're some cheapo.
