Hello friends I am little confused. I have started my work in article from recently.. But I am thinking that there is not much difference between mylot discussions and article of any site. The only difference I noticed that Articles are lengthy and detailed informative. But can't we do the same here too ?! So what makes difference between them ?

An article exists to give information while a discussion exists to gather information and exchange opinions. A good discussion will be almost like an incomplete article, since many articles begin by outlining questions and problems but then go on to offer the answers and solutions. What a discussion should do is to introduce a topic with enough descriptive information as is necessary to define and illustrate the topic; it should then go on to invite good quality, descriptive responses (this is why "poll type" questions, which can really be completely answered in a few words, are one of the things we should avoid). There are many techniques which encourage discussion (rather than just answers). One of my favourites is to make sure that any questions asked are 'open' or 'leading' questions and can't be answered by 'Yes' or 'No' - "How did you spend your holiday?" is better than "Did you have a good holiday?" Even making sure that questions can't be answered simply, however, doesn't necessarily lead to a good discussion. Somebody may give you an excellent and detailed account of their holiday but unless that raises further points in your mind so that you can say more than just "Oh, I'm glad!" or (even worse!) "Thanks for responding!" it is NOT a good discussion, is it? ... In fact, I would say that it's not a discussion at all: it is more of a 'question and answer' session or even something like a 'homework topic' ("Write 200 words on what you did in the vacation.") Creating good discussions requires some leadership techniques from the person starting the discussion, not only at the beginning but along the way as the discussion progresses. These are very much the same techniques one uses to have a good conversation (rather than an interview for a magazine article, for example). Discussions also need input from the responders and these, too, should be aware that they are carrying on a discussion rather than just answering a question. People like this are quite hard to find but, if they do get involved in your discussion, they are worth cultivating! Now, what do you think? Have I written an 'article' or a 'response' (as part of a discussion). Have I said everything there is to be said or are there some things with which you disagree or which you see differently? I think I would agree that many MyLot 'discussions' are really 'articles'. There are a few people who have good 'discussion leading' skills and there are many people who don't really understand the first principles of a 'good conversation', let alone how to start one!

Owlwings.. I would say it a very good article. I guess you cover up all the points and I don't think i can add something more about it. You have given complete description of mylot discussions and article as well. Yes even I thinks that some of mylot discussions are like an article. I mean your this response is already one example.

I really like owlwing comment. To summarized his article I would say that discussions always raises further points than in an article. Discussion is more flexible than an article as it include further interaction with more than one person. Here in mylot it depends on the topic itself. But as it usually involved more than a single response so I would say most of them are discussions. But this comment will going to be a short article that is for sure..(^^)

A discussion- actively interact with others, have thinking process to gain more and different point, there are sharing, giving and rejecting points occur such debating and involved with at least two people and more. An article- A collection of information or facts made by a person to be spread to others without an interaction occur continuously. Since here in mylot we have both the article and the discussion I think I can use both and change it vice versa when I do my writings in other site. The answers and opinions shared here are beneficial in other way too~(^^)

Yes owlwings have explained very well.. and you too here. Yes discussions always having space for adding more information in that topic while article having already detailed information .. people can comment it but can't discuss about problems if it have.. While discussions can have lots of discuss about that topic.

Hi anand.... I think an article does nor require any discussion. I mean you may not be interested on who is commenting and whats writing but in a discussion you are obligated to view who has responded to you and have to comment back for that health of discussion. In a discussion you may have too change your views but an article is completely your research. Have a nice time.

I agree.. There is space of arguments in the discussions unlike the article.. There may be comments but no discussion in any article..

hiya akp! hmmmm....that is a tough one for mario, but i shall try and answer in true mario style... an Article, begins with the letter 'A', and has 7 letters in total. a Discussion, begins with the letter 'D', and has 10 letters in it. it is also pronounced differently... this has been a Public Service Announcement by your nut-job friend, Super Mario hahaaa....sorry, i couldn't resist..

I think you really do know the difference but I will answer anyways just to give you my opinion. I am new here but I think I already get it, how mylot works. An article is just a piece of writing that is only read and not discussed by others. A discussion is just that, a topic that is being discussed and talked about. Interaction back and forth. When you post an article no one can respond to it unless it is set up that people can, but most time not. You get paid differently too, for an article you get paid a set price but a discussion pays more everytime some responds to it and makes it an ongoing discussion. I think you get it by now so I don't have any more to say but I know what I mean and am having a hard time expressing myself so I will let it go at that my friend. Littlemissy signing off now, TTYL

Well.. I wasn't talking about paying difference.. Both are good at own. Welcome to mylot. yes you are already doing good here. Many article has the feature for commenting. But the main difference is its not having discussion. I mean we can have discuss in discussion but not in article. so there is space of additional information in discussion unlike article. yes I was aware of difference i guess. But as i am new in article writing i was confused when i see some articles which was like mylot discussions. But yes discussion was surely missing.
