what is up with this song???

aye mylot, so i've been hearing on the radio these past few weeks called "pumped up kicks" and at first i thought it had a really nice beat to it and i didn't really pay attention to the lyrics. originally i thought it was another stereotypical boy likes girl type song and then at school someone starts humming along to this song. of course this kid is the type where they know all the random facts in the world but cannot ace a single test. he goes "hey did you know this song is about a guy going on a killing spree at his school?" and my mind totally dissolved. immediately i start rampaging him with questions to the point where he's the one walking away from all my blabbering. so i go home and decide to google it. turns out pumped up kicks= nike airs etc. and he says something about running and bullets which can't be good. TODAY i hear this song again and i look at it a totally different way. so has this ever happened to you? when you find out something and then look at it a totally different way OR what is your interpretation of this song?
