For the 180th time in history, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints holds our Semi-Annual General Conference. An estimated 100,000 church members traveled from neighboring cities and across the globe to attend the event. Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Apolitical, and everything in between came together with no arrests or violence.
All that happened is the Prophet, Apostles and other leaders of the LDS church gave talks, Returned Missionaries enjoyed "Mission Reunions" and members from other areas got to enjoy seeing the LDS church buildings, historic sites, and local Salt Lake fare.
The most controversial thing that happened was some Anti Mormon people exercised their first amendment rights around Temple Square, to voice their opposition to some of the LDS church's positions and doctrines.
In other words, this weekend proves that there can be a huge event in the US where violence isn't the order of the day!

We may have different views but it's nice to see peaceful events.

Well admittedly there are situations that require a good fight, but most that end up in a fight aren't among them. ;~D

They are in Chicago, Mich., and Mass. Soon to be in a town near you. I know that you are Spiritual Pose, but when things get bad It will not matter if you are christian, Jew, spiritual or atheist. Certain groups hate Americans and assume they are all christians or Jews...

Of course it was peaceful. It was a gathering of people that put a high value on morals and dignity and reverence of God and country. When you have that in common it doesn't matter how many of you there are, it will be a peaceful gathering.

Oops, you better not mention the great time you had at work, Ted, or you'll be told to keep your religion to yourself!
How dare you be excited about a huge event where (I'm assuming) you had a lot of fun? *dripping with sarcasm*
Seriously, I'm glad that First Ammendment rights were exercised without any violence occurring.
You're free to say "Hey, I think Mormonism is great," and I'm free to say "I'm sure you enjoy it. Not my cup of tea, though," and you're free to say "well, you missed one hell of a party the other day. 100,000 people!" And stragely enough, neither one of us needs to yell at/swear at/defame/kill the other. What a world!

Sadly, I was only among the millions who enjoyed the festivities online. But yup, it was a great exhibition of 1st Amendment rights and spiritual feasting!
And OH YEAH To everything after "You're free to say" ;~D
