Hi Adhyz, you forget one thing about Internet. Every internet user needs internet access. The internet access is provided by a few large companies in the country. China government can and do control internet usage. They can just order the internet provider to ease the coverage of the services. If they do that, the problem is that the government will come to a standstill too. That is why the China government does not want to stop all internet usage, but they want to stop the search engines from providing search service for certain keywords. Many people in China are already not happy with the level of corruption, and high inflation rate in the country. Traditionally, farmers in China had led and overthrown many dynasties. Farmer Revolution is something feared by the Chinese. If the rich poor gap widens further, the farmers may revolt. Since Tibetans are unwilling subjects of China, any revolt in other parts of China will definitely lead to unrest in Tibet. As of today, when China provides so many things for the world, we can ill afford to have political crisis in China.

Hi Adhyz82, I think many people forget that China is not a democratic country. It is never a democratic country. No matter how good you see the economic growth in China, it is fundamentally a communist country ruled by communist party. As to your question about Tibet and China. The short answer is that Tibet used to be a country on its own. China invaded Tibet and conquered it. That took place not very long ago, and the wound is still opened.

We have many rich Chinese coming to Canada to invest their money and to enjoy the freedoms available in Canada. If we don't like our Government we are free to choose a new Government. Our Government is composed of ordinary people. You don't need to be rich and famous to be a Government member. Almost everyone in Canada has internet and there are no restriction on it. The Chinese Government is frightened of the Chinese people. There will be civil unrest in China because the Chinese people are repressed!

adhyz82, I don't think the Chinese government is worried about the increase of internet users in China itself. But, they are concern about the abuses of this media to cause social and economic unrest to the country. I see that you seem to forget how countries like Tunisia, Syria and some other middle east countries are in turmoil and stricken with civil war after masses have been exposed to very sensitive information broadcasted by WikiLeaks. Also, how your country got to overthrow your former president Suharto and brought about the atrocities to the Chinese Indonesians? You may have forgotten also that not everything posted on the internet is true and I am sure you would have come across hoaxes, scams, altered facts and many heinous articles that just wants to stir and mislead the masses into anarchy and/or mutiny. So thanks to the freedom of speech, we even have radicalized, bigotry and terror teachings and contents on the internet. Information Technology is a powerful tool indeed but for undeveloped, under-developed and (just) developing countries to let it run without proper censorship and control will just be asking for the unthinkable consequences especially when there's a huge mass of uneducated and poorly educated who can be easily swayed by some cowards who operate behind the screen.

YEs, china is scared of the world out there. They are trying to keep to themselves by staying in their shell, oblivious of happenings out there. While they try to keep out internet, but at the same time, they are copying the latest online technology. While US has twitter, china has got Weibo, which is the chinese version of it. IF china really wants to cut itself off from world happenings, they should not be copying stuffs at all.

hello, you guys, i am chinese, and i am also a internet user, i have not heard the news yet, since it is a statement from our government, then we will be informed very soon. i think that the reason why do we are limited to internet is that some evil thing is spreading by employing the internet things and people who are addicted to online games would get obsessed, and never wake up again, so it is a regulation to help us build a more health atomosphere, and take part in more outdoor activity.

china will not disclose reasons for several anti internet action their government is doing..all we can do are assumption and wild speculations to what is the real china intention over this issue..but what they are doing right now is about control in web media for apparent reason the china government believe will best serve their interest and intention..maybe it's not what their people should know outside but my intuition makes me to guess that china is doing a safetynet for something she doesn't want the world to know..

China is a communist country. For it to remain a communist party it has to have control over everything especially the kind of information its citizens get. The internet is one of the ways to get access to information, just imagine a few billion people realizing the kind of rights people from democratic countries are enjoying against those who are in a communist country. I think one of the main contributory factor on why there are social unrest in some of the arab countries is the internet, specifically the social media. I think China is just trying to prevent any social unrest and monitoring people's online activity is one of the deterrent.

Hi adhyz!. I thinks it related to political activity and how more and more people in China not satisfied with their government. We all know the their government monitoring the intern user. We all realize how internet can ease the world boundaries and give us freedom to speak what in our mind. Its also made us to see think deferentially because we can learn so many think from it. We now all freedom start from mind than to act. Maybe China had great economic growth but freedom to speak not there.

I agree, be sure the government can restrict Internet usage. because the dorm is needed in the workplace and in politics. Internet usage in the limit when the, then all work will be limited as well. so the performance of a country will decrease and weaken. what else in our country Indonesia. The child's elementary school to a college every day spend their time playing online games. online gaming course using the internet. so what if you should wish to limit the use of the Internet, once viewed in terms of its usefulness.
