I'm scared to use myLot search engine?

Hi guys! I'm the kind of person who spends 15 hours (or more) a day using the internet. I love to use google search engine. I use it every single time. I'm the kind of person who searches everything in google, the pronunciation of some words, how much is this particular product if I buy directly in US, how old is Bradd Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, and Angelina Jolie, everything under the sun! That's why when I tried to switch to myLot search engine, I was totally excited. But one time, I received this warning that says suspicious activity. I stopped using it. I tried a couple of days later, I received a warning again. I think I will not use the mylot search engine again. I have read in their guidelines that they will cancel your account without prior notice if they notice that I'm misusing the search engine. I don't want my account to be canceled. O.o

Yeah, I think if you use it too much you can get banned. That happened to someone I know.. I think that was the reason, anyway. I think trying to find a topic on the search is fine... and legitimate searches are fine.. but I think if just random words are put into the search engine over and over, I think their software gets wise to it.

They are not going to cancel your account just because you got the "suspicious activity" message a couple of times. Of course, I am not suggesting that you continue to use the search engine every day and get that message each time, because then they might suspend your account. However, I have gotten that message a couple of times myself, and all that happened was that I could not use the search feature for a couple of hours.

*giggle, giggle* I am not so much an expert as an amateur that does it in her spare time as a hobby ... otherwise I would not keep getting caught doing it.

I see : you started this discussion to learn how to not be caught.

I hesitated to comment in this box, because it is always difficult to comment in the box of a specialist of this particular "suspicious activity" who have already started a discussion about it : http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2539076.aspx

Hey there. How are you doing mariahhh. I read some of the responses here, and Hardworkinggurl had a good response for the issue. If nothing that she suggested, is what is happening, I think you should get in touch with the admin. I think you will find their link in the guidelines. I don't remember exactly where, but it is there. I saw it when I was reviewing again. So good luck, I hope you get things figured out. Errors occur sometimes and maybe that is what has happened. I have tried using their search engine from time to time when I need to look something up, but as I have never received a bonus for it, I don't try it very often.

Do not be scared of such information. I was also taken aback but I get used to it. Anyways just logged off and go back to mylot later on after several hours. It is something also that makes me uncomfortable because in the first place it was mylot who encouraged the use of search the web menu.

Hi Starrose_ara :) You are right, it's them who encouraged us to use the myLot search engine. :P They said to use it the normal, natural way, and it really is how we use the search engine. :) By the way, so you also receive the warning. Do you often receive it? It really is kind of scary, because the term they used was "suspicious activity" lol. :)

I've tried to use it on the assumption that it just searches mylot. It doesn't, and, further, didn't turn up for me a single contribution by the mylotter I was searching for, just posts from people referring to her. Was she banned? If it was for the slip I uncovered, I'd say unfairly so. It would be good if, instead of banning every offender outright, my lot could distinguish between posts that should be banned and deleted because of reprehensible content and posts that simply should not attract payment. Indeed, we should be able to post things and indicate with the post that it should not attract payment. Mylot would then be justified in banning contributors who deliberately fail to provide such indications. As a trained programmer, I know that all this should not be difficult.

Ummm ... I think that you are a little confused here, and you are combining two separate issues. The myLot search engine will search only myLot if you choose the "discussions", "tasks", "blogs", "photos" or "messages" options. The only time that it searches the entire Internet is if you choose the "web" option. Also, you are searching for either "tags" in a discussion or "full text search" in a discussion, so the search engine is not designed to search for individual members but rather discussions (or the other specific options already mentioned). MyLot does not ban every offender outright, especially for "minor" violations such as overusing the search feature, posting poll-type discussions, and some other things. You might get a warning for certain things, which you should definitely take seriously, but they do not generally suspend a person's account for their first offense ... unless it is something like plagiarism or multiple accounts or something like that.

We do not have to use the myLot search feature, and some people do not as they prefer other search engines. If we want to use it, though, it is available to us and offers us another opportunity to earn a few extra cents while we are getting the information that we are trying to obtain. As for the plagiarism, we get paid for our interactions here, so that is one of the main reasons why we should not put anything that is not our own work, even if it is available for use in the public domain. The person could easily have stated the main point and put a link to the information if anyone wanted to read the entire article (or whatever it was) rather than just copying and pasting it - that would have been the proper thing to do.

I don't think anyone should be paid for searching outside mylot, unless the search is restricted to, say, a few websites connected with mylot. I don't think the web option should be there, or if it is, it should be flagged for non-payment (and such flagging should exist). Her source is on the internet now, but I don't know that it was on there when she posted her post - she could just as easily have had to type it in from an old book. And knowing or finding out what material to post and which book to get it from probably involved considerably more work than the other contributors put in when they typed in their opinions - at similar length. As for "the main point", the main point was the entire quote - there wasn't a part of that quote that wasn't directly relevant to the discussion. We don't just post for the money (I wonder whether I'll even live to see my first $25 minus whatever the banks take and minus the depreciation in value because the $'s going down the chute), and the most that should be done to materially relevant posts is to make them non-paying. If the facility were available to indicate a post of mine that should be non-paying, I assure you I'd use it.

Yeah that written on their FAQ's. As long as I concern, we must use Mylot normally (I think 15 sec) in term "looking information". If we use less in that, I think Mylot will consider that we just looking for reward not information. I use Mylot search everyday but I don't have any problem like you (at least not yet).

Haha, yes. We both use the myLot search engine to look for information. The difference between us is that I use it too frequently. So I will still use it but not too much, and maybe use it to search for discussions. Yes, the reward in myLot is only an added bonus in using their search engine. :)
