Last Saturday the chosen top 20 kids , were made to make a dish out of the simple ingredients worth PhP140.00 given them, in a box. The top 3 were: 3rd Place – Louise (2 points advantage) - for her Lumpiang Repolyo 2nd Place - Bianca (4 points advantage) - for her Fisball Patties 1st Place - Miko (6 points advantage - for his Malunngay Ravioli My bet, Philip didn’t make it to the top 3 , because his dish was ordinary, Ginataang munggo. Though, Judy said it was delicious. Mico , got to choose the main ingredient he likes, and he chose duck. The top 3 for their duck dish were: 3rd Place - Kaithlin ( 2 points advantage ) – for her Hazelnut Crusted Duck 2nd Place - Ian (4 points advantage ) – for his Red Duck Curry with Lychees 1st Place - Kyle (6 points advantage ) – for his Roasted Duck with Tinola Consomme What made them win is that their dishes are not that simple. Miko was able to make a ravioli from scratch. Ian was able to make his own curry , which the judge said, he himself as chef hasn’t done one in his entire life yet. I think, in this contest, all the rich kids have an edge over the poor ones, because they can afford to buy expensive ingredients, hence can try in cooking intricate dishes. Oh, I would like to taste Miko’s Malunggay ravioli and Ian’s Red Duck Curry.

that is true! Phillip was good but because his dish was ordinary he didn't get the 1st palce or even placed. anyway... their dish name was a complicated one. i have not encountered some terms before. their presentation was really good. and i can't help myself but envy the kids talent.

Oh yes, just like you i envy them. Me, at this age, the most intricate that i have cooked is the kare-kare. As for other more intricate ones, i haven't yet. That's true, their plating or presentation are more like that of a real chef already. I guess, they always watch cooking shows.

lol! i can't think of any intricate dish i did. i always have my own way of cooking stuffs and in my dish i always have that signature taste. (it is sweet!) maybe i should start watching cooking shows now to level the kids talent.

Actually we have our own way of making our dishes. We don't have to always watch cooking shows or attend cooking lesson , in order to be able to make delicious foods. We simply have to have a good recipe book and good understanding of the instruction to be able to do a good dish. I think, my most intricate dish is kare-kare. My daughter boasts it to her boyfriend and friend.

the show - hope more of this show comes
Hello Simplyd, We should have this kind of Show a long time ago, and we should have been the one to start it from the beginning, instead of getting future celebrities, they should get more people from the culinary thing, so that the future kids will be happy to be part of the cooking career as well. I don't watch it really but because i get hungry every time i watch the damn show

Me, i always eat early on Saturday , just so that i could concentrate watching that show. Because i am full already, i don't get hungry seeing their dishes. But then, my mouth salivates.

I actually enjoy watching such shows, but i have not watched the Pinoy version, i was able to watch Australia's Junior Master Chef shown in cable tv.. What i love about it is that these kids are amazing. They can whip like almost anything from what is given. its like i do not know how to do such! Even the desserts. I do agree with what you said that the rich ones have an advantage since they can afford and can try any ingredient available because they have extra money for it and can buy even those expensive ingredients like saffron and the likes. While the poor ones cannot especially ones whose parents are just budgeting. I was watching it with my kids and they were like mama let us make something like that, that time they were making desserts and was using strawberries and cherries and i was like..whoooaaa hahaha if only we could afford those. But i do let them help me when i cook, atleast they get interested and motivated by the show.

Actually jazel, our children could be taught on the basics of cooking with the use of the available ingredients at home or simple ingredients. How i just wish my child has an interest in cooking. Unfortunately, she doesn't have it. What she can just cook until now that she's 20 is fried egg. She's more into studying very well. That more than compensate for her lack of skill in cooking. But she always would request me to cook her favorites.

Hi SimplyD! I agree with you that the richer kids have an edge over the others. I feel like they are more creative with their dishes and are able to make ordinary ingredients into extraordinary recipes. Maybe because they are more expose to different kinds of foods and more trained in the kitchen I guess. I also wish Philip and other kids to make it on top the next time.

That's right. Since the rich kids have been cooking a lot of intricate dishes, they already have the edge over the other kids that are only exposed to simple cooking. Let's see the next episode , on how they act as a team in doing a dish.
